I Did have a UP SD90MAC But I sold it to a Friend Because Im only collecting BNSF models. Plus I felt sorry for him because he only had one UP SD90MAC in the first place,so now he has 2 on his layout.

I voted No but then since I model southeastern railroads, I hadn't bought any UP before either.

I've never gone out of my way to buy UP items.
I do have some & they are all second hand I bought of a UP fanatic I have as a friend.

I guess if it's going to cost me more for a U.P. freight car than another road, it would be easy for me to pass by UNION PACIFIC. I don't need U.P. to do what I want in the hobby, even though Northern Pacific interchanged with U.P. I don't have any U.P. and I'm uncertain why that is, as it wasn't an issue previous to U.P.'s management going berserk!

I never had any UP models in the first place, and probably won't anyways now.
They were an archrival of all of my favorite lines, anyways.

I have very little UP rolling stock, not because I dislike UP, but because my fictional Rio Grande California Extension, which is set in the 1940's, would be far more likely to use CB&Q and MP for its Midwest connections, and SP, WP and even that ol' debbil Santa Fe for its West Coast interchanges. In the period I model, UP heads north to Seattle and south to Los Angeles, and not into Northern California (except for all of those PFE reefers) except as a connection to SP in Ogden. Even when I was a kid, I didn't see much UP rolling stock on the Donner Pass line, it was either SP or a lot of everyone else (especially Pennsy and NYC). So on my fictional Rio Grande California Extension, you'll see a lot of CB&Q and subs FW&D and C&S, and quite a bit of MP. Along with a lot of eastern roads and some Northwest transcons. But UP just doesn't fit into the picture that much. Never did, in fact, even BEFORE Dec 25th.

No, but I don't model UP. I am planning on having some UP SD40-2's, SD40T-2's, SD70M's, and C44ACCTE's on the layout, but I haven't gotten any yet.

I simply cannot fathom what UP's seeking licensing agreements with model manufacturers has to do with what I purchase or what I model. I think I was about six years old when I decided there was no purpose served in needing to strike out at something I did not like, or to seek revenge for some real or imagined wrong. If someone has an issue with UP, might I suggest you write to them directly and let them know you will not be purchasing models of UP equipment. Be certain you inform them of the substantial impact this will have on their balance sheet. Tell them if they do not mend their ways you will instigate a hostile takeover of the entire railroad. That should put the fear of God into them.

I have one UP SW, and a GP9. I have not bought any new UP stuff since their licensing (sp?) requirement, and probably never will again. Besdies, they swallowed up Western Pacific.

Anyone want to buy a UP Sw and GP9?

I have a few UP locomotives, and I probably will by more, but, that's because I don't care about paint scheme at the moment.

Of course I still buy UP stuff, Why wouldn"t I?, I never stopped buying UP models, and don"t plan to stop, I hope we aren"t sliding back to that same old childish, bash UP, stuff that was so prevalant a few month"s back. I model 1/87th, UP is 1/1 , with the only connection being the same color paint. I rest my case.

i haven't bought anything UP before this all happened, i did buy a MP hopper with the UP herald on it. the price was the same as the other hopper i bought so i wasn't complaining. i don't think i'll buy any UP loco brand new or what not but maybe at the next show i might be able to find a loco. although i plan to model mainly BNSF/BN power along with NS i do want a UP loco or 2 right now as that is what i see every day.

i know i won't buy a new UP loco or anything new out of Walthers or something at the prices but at a show maybe yes.

Well, I can't really stop buying UP, since I never started. I grew up by the CNW, though, and every once and a while I feel the urge to buy some of their equipment, but I've decided that no matter how much I may dislike UP it's not going to stop me.

I don't let petty politics and greed get in the way of what I buy. I live in a town serviced by both UP and BNSF. I railfan both lines equally. But I buy more UP (and fallen flag roads) than BNSF easily. Because I like to weather rolling stock... and the UP cars being older tend to be nastier looking. BNSF cars are too new - and therefore too clean for me. (Yes, I know about the oxide red 2-bay cement hopers, but that's an exception).

I've bought the fixings to make a bunch of PFE steel reefers a few weeks ago.
PFE is co-owned by UP. So I guess thats yes.

It sucks what they did, but I don't hold any major grudge against them.

Since my primary rr is UP, I still buy UP rolling stock and Locos. The lawsuit does not concern me, since I'm well aware of licensing agreements with John Deere, Harley-Davidson, etc. Something UP should have probably done 30 years ago.

By the way mloik, I would take your UP SW and GP9 off your hands for the right price!

An express box car or two for my mail trains

A freight car or two here and there, if it is the correct era.

Since I model Eastern Roads, I do not buy the locomotives, cabooses or passenger cars. I suppose that a baggage car or two might not be inappropriate for my mail trains, but I have never bought one.

The GF likes UP nineteenth century stuff, but has not bought any lately. She decided she liked the D&RGW Atlas mogul, over the UP (did Atlas even sell it in UP? I forget, but she took one look at the Rio Grande and wanted that one. This made the man at MBK happy, because she also had to buy some Overtons in Rio Grande to go with it).

But, since CSX is likely to follow suit, and that this includes its component roads, I will wind up paying licence fees, indirectly.

I voted no, but then again I hadn't bought any UP equipment before then either - it's just not my interest. I guess C&NW and SP sort of count (if I remember rightly, UP are charging licensing fees on fallen flag roads as well?), but I've not noticed a sudden price hike on these.

Sure! I need UP and its fallen flags to have a believable layout..Why should I hurt the manufacturers by not buying UP cars? After all its not their fault.I also buy CSX and its fallen flags as well.[:D]

Many of the Pole Responses voting "NO" seem to have never model Union Pacific. Most model railroaders do not have the full understanding of what Union Pacific is desiring from the manufactures of model railroad items. Sometimes, you have to ask for some huge bucks to get a wake up call when another manufacture is stealing your logo as UP did with the 40 million dollar law suit.

The model railroaders who do model after UP seem to continued collecting with little effect. As well, Union Pacifc has had a long history of deverse locomotives like the
4-8-8-4 Big Boy, Challenger, DD-40 and also Veranda Diesel with Tender that would not be prototypically correct with other road names on them. Each really nice to have in any collection just as the Southern Pacific Cab Forward that no other railroad operated and currently fallen to the UP line.

At first, I was ready to BOYCOTT Union Pacific . Why would some large business like Union Pacific care about a silly license agreement on anything with "UP" register trade mark on it especially when it would be great advertising and good for business. Why would UP care about Athearn or Lionel? However, licensing is important. People need to have permission to use trade names which they do not own. Such as those like SEARS, Budwieser, Coke Cola, Ford, John Deere or Boston Red Sox... These names are legal trade marks that require authorization to use. ATHEARN and LIONEL did not ask for permission nor have it before using them ....Also,. Union Pacific was not after BIG BUCKS from manufactures using their name, They only wanted manufacutures to have an agreement of authorization to use their name, logos and fallen Flags.

If Union Pacific was to get out of hand with this demanding huge royalties, I would BOYCOTT them as I support our fellow model railroaders. The 40 million does not seem to be sought after but more of an attention getter which worked. As well, they have come to an agreement with Athearn "Horizon Hobby" and likely soon have agreements worked out with LIONEL an other manufactures of goods that have the trade marks of Union Pacific and those names which UP holds ownership with. What is important to keep in mind is if you owned a large business that had someone making money off your trade name which was not connected with your operation or liabilities, then they are stealing from you where you deserve a royalty. That was not being offered to Union Pacific. Additionally, UP wants manufactures of model railroad to make only items in which they use. They do not want to see a locomotive such as the GG-1 with UP heralds on it if they never owned one in their fleet. With these agreements, there is no need to BOYCOT Union PACIFIC...... Take the time to read Union Pacific Web Site and support the WORLD GREATEST HOBBY: "MODEL RAILROADING" . http://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/modelrail.shtml However, what I believe Union Pacific should do with any royalties earned through model railroading is to use towards education, museums and support of model railroaders.

The only way a real "boycott" of the UP would work would be not to ship any REAL car load lots, containers or trailers on their rails..As far as boycotting by not buying UP models what makes you think you would hurt a multi-billion dollar company? You would hurt the manufacturers,Internet shops and local hobby shops..

I still like the UP I buy anytihng UP because my railroad is (Yikes) a UP subsidiary. This happened after a fire that destroyed all of the TCRR's stuff. The UP gave us $$$, so we are their interchange between all other railroads. (NOTE- that is the history of the TDRR. Not all is acurate in the sense of being true)
Call me crazy, but I LIKE Zito yellow. RAILFANESPEE4449
