Need help replacing motor !

One of my HO Spectrum engines has bad motor - very noisy. I've ran it for a day (the actual motor) at full speed, but it hasn't broken in.

1) Where can I get a replacement motor with flywheels ?

2) Who manufactures them ? Who sells them ?

3) How do I determine exactly the type I need ?

Most manufacturers list the part numbers for all parts of a locomtive on the instruction sheet so you can reorder if need be direct from Bachman. As was mentioned, if it's less than 1 yr old it should be under warranty.

The engine is under warranty, but I am in Canada. It'll cost me pretty much the same to send my engine to them as it would to buy another motor.
If I just knew which one...

Telephone Bachmann's service department in Philly (go to Bachmann's web page for the phone #). If you are nice, they may send you a replacement gratis.

If you send them a copy of your reciept, they will send you a replacement part. For break-in I'd suggest NOT running the motor at high speed. It needs to see all different speeds so the brushes make contact with the armature at all points. A most common noise is brush bounce.

Some of the newer products coming out of China are not lubricated at the factory, so carefully read the documentation that came with your model and oil it according to their instructions. This is not a problem unique to Bachmann, but also applies to Lionel, Broadway Limited, Athearn Genesis, and other Chinese products.

For future reference if you do want to replace the motor, try North West Short Line. They seem to have a good selection of replacement motors. They have a web site so a Google search should get you the address.

What type of locomotive do you have? I see new Spectrum diesels at train shows regularly at discounted prices but was curious if there are specific models that have problems.

(Just like the first run HO Life Like P2K "Geeps" that often came with cracked axle housings----easy to fix though)

Well, it isn't normal break-in, feels like rotor is actually touching stator at certan place.

As for the model - it is DF-11 chinese engine. They are pretty good, DCC ready and better than regular north american Spectrums. I have a short review of DF-4B which is very similar here: http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24044

And these actually came very nicely lubricated.
I have total of 15 of these, only one came with bad motor. Statistically it is OK for me, but let's see how responsive is Bachmann...

do you know of any other site ? That one is kinda hard to navigate and find any motors. And I couldn't see any with flywheels anyway.
