Since you have both A and B units, why not take the  bodies off and see if it will work? shoud be a simple test.

Yes. I've done it a couple of times with PK2 E-8s.

I can't speak definitively since I don't have those engines but every set of A&B engines I have owned used the same frames from the A unit. It makes economic sense for the manufacturer. Why pay for two different molds when one will do and the A unit is usually the restrictive body with the front curves or slopes.

I did the same several years ago, but mine aren't DCC.  As I recall, there was little or no mod necessary.  I picked up 2 powered E7A units that were decorated in a paint scheme that was locally unpopular, so I got them at a good price. Then I put one mech. into a B&O E6B, and the other into a PRR E7B.

I have one E-6 A-B set and as I recall as shipped the B was a dummy. I made the B powered and I believe I used an A unit chassis from an E-7. It was a few years ago so I don't remember the details.

In one case I had to scrape out some bosses inside the shell but I'm not sure if this was the case on the E-6. So the bottom line is, yes you can do the conversion but there may be a little modification to get the shell to sit perfectly.

One thing to keep in mind is that the later Walthers ex-P2k units are geared slower so if you pick up an older Life-Like chassis you may have to do some speed-matching.

I can check later as time permits, Ed

I have a Lifelike P2K E6A (factory DCC powered) and B (dummy) set in UP livery .  I'd like to power the B unit.  Looking at Ebay, I see few if any powered B units where I could just swap shells, even if I would convert a powered DC one.  So I wonder if I could simply acquire a powered A unit and put the B shell on it (and eliminate the lights and cab stuff).  I would likely acquire a DC or B unit and convert it to DCC and also swap my A unit decoder to the same type, as I don't like the behavior of the current decoder particularly (or I can't figure out how to program it right).

Thanks for any advice.

Paul
