I was one of the first to receive it from www.firsthobby.com but it arrived missing a side rod rivet and the warranty/instruction card.

Waiting for the replacement. In the meantime I fired up my Berks/FEF-3s as backup support.

Appearance wise it looks a tad better than my Beast from the East, the Mighty Allegheny.

This baby weighs it at 25 ounces, has two traction tires. Other modelers
voiced disappointement in the chintz sound decoder and that it's not up to the sound standards of BLI, QSI, Soundtraxx.

True and this is my first Athearn but I had to jump on the opportunity.
Since I'm not DCC, I didn't buy it for the sound. I have a stand alone sound box with three speakers over head.

There are several other threads about the Athearn Genesis Challenger floating around out here in recent days. You might use the search function to using those keywords to call them up. I am one of those who is a little disappointed in the sound, but I can accept the sound, as-is, because this is a very smooth performer and you cannot beat the looks of this thing without going to brass, in my opinion. I'm not sorry about my purchase, and I don't think you would be either, once you've seen one and seen it run.

My Challenger arrived and was missing a side rod rivet. I had the option of returning for a refund.
Instead I will patiently wait for my on line dealer to get new stock in month end.
As stated before this is my first Athearn, first online(optional) purchase and is from a brick & mortar
dealer who is working for me to make it right.
Some onliners and mail order dealers will not extend this courtesy to you.
