al07601 I know there's a lot of talent on here, so don't laugh too hard at the pic....I'm a novice. This is my first attempt after building a $5 scale house kit. This is a Laser-Art #611 Madison House Kit. I'm ready to do the roof (paper & structure shown). 3 questions: 1. Should I paint/weather the paper shingles before or after attaching to roof? 2. What should I use to paint/weather the paper shingles? Acrylics & India Ink/Alcohol? 3. The instructions say to use white glue to attach paper shingles; but I've read articles that say not to use white glue and use a glue stick instead. What is best? Thanks...Al https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6meYvKTzzaOZzF1VHgzYTcxcEU/view?usp=sharing

Al,
Your link should work now. I also would put the shingles on first. I only did 2 shingled roofs, but they were not paper, so I don't consider my experience as such, to give You advice for paper. I would try a contact cement or Aileen's tacky glue.

al076011. Should I paint/weather the paper shingles before or after attaching to roof?
I do it after. You risk ruining the paint and weathering with glue otherwise.
Water-based paint and weathering can easily cause paper materials, and the underlying wood sub-roof, to warp. Once the shngles are attached, the adhesive my interfere with even staining, assuming the paper involved accepts stain at all even before gluing (some of the paper used in manufacture doesn't like to take stain no matter what). I normally use a base layer of spray paint (maybe a medium gray for wood shakes), and weather with dry-brushing and/or chalks over that.

*EDIT* Looks like the Madison house roof is intended to be asphalt shingles, so if using the kit parts paint may be the logical solution over stain regardless of whether the material would accept stain.
Most glues dry too fast when applied in the small quantities needed for things like shingle strips. I like glue sticks. They aren't useful for much in model building, but for this application they work great.

Doesn't look like there are many roofers available this weekend.
The only roofing I have put on was simulating rolled roofing, made from a very fine, black sandpaper.
1. I would weather after attaching.
2. If you have a little extra roofing material, attach it to material similar to your roof, then do a little experimenting. I doubt that acrylics would react, but a little pratice never seems to hurt.
3. I think either should work. I painted a coat of white glue on the wooden roof and applied the roofing to that. As long as the glue stick doesn't take too much pressure to apply, I'd think it would work too.
By the way, your pictures didn't show. Sorry, can't help you there.
Good luck,
Richard
