Just got some seagulls and lightning rod finials. Getting ready to install on layout and add some lights. Will post photos when 'really' finished. This has been a fun project.

up831 I could be wrong here, but could that building have been the bait shop on the Campbell wharf kit? If it wasn't, then I don't know. But, I vaguely remember a structure on the wharf looking similar to this building.

Now I have some cedar shakes and windows left over, so I can build another similar but smaller structure for the harbor scene on my layout.

I am beginning to think that I can build any structure I want as long as I have the time and patience, but I do have a couple of dozen kits waiting for me to start on. I've just come to realize that most kits (but not craftsman kits) aren't as good as what you can scratch build. One of the bigest problems is finding the correct (or desired) windows and doors.

The seagulls must be near you (if you can hear them) because I ordered them on Saturday and they haven't arrived yet? Model Tech Studios makes a lot of marine details and I can't wait for them to get here. Thanks for the kind comments. I will post final photos when I finish the model.

I do agree that the weathering on the roof could be toned down a wee bit, and, if I can suggest, add a few rust stains coming from the stove pipe and vent stack, and maybe the chimney flashing. I hope you don't think that I am being overly critical. That is not my intent. You have done a great job! Dave

Thanks for the comments and no I don't think you are overly critical. I just added the stove pipe and vent stack yesterday (last details added) and did plan to weather them on my next session.
The cedar shakes are from B.T.S. and are absolutely great as they are laser cut paper with adhesive backing. I used them for the siding and roof. They are just a tedious task and took more time than the rest of the build process, but well worth it. I have use other brands that have to be glued on and they are really a p.i.a.
I am waiting for the roof details (lightning rod finials) and seagulls to come in so I can finish it.

Well, I am about 95% finished with my scratch built version of the structure I originally posted about. Never found out who made the kit, unless it was scratch built too. I am waiting for some of the small detail parts and I will be ready to put this little beauty on my layout. Thought I would post some photos of what it looks like now. I may lighten the roof color a little, but the photos are a little darker than it really is.

Looks quite a bit larger than those dimensions which is a good thing. I would appreciate the drawing please.

Just to update on the progress of the build: I have the 'Fish Building' well on it's way to completion but have run out of the cedar shake/shingle (siding) and have to wait for the reorder to come in. I have another brand of cedar roof shingle on order as well and when it all comes in I can continue and finish the model. I plan to paint/stain it to look like the original model photos I posted. The siding is applied in single row strips and is very tedious but rewarding when you see the results.
Although I wasn't able to find it in their current or past offerings, it looks a lot like products from Rusty Stumps, especially their corner moldings:http://www.rustystumps.com/proddetail.asp?prod=K4018
I did a little mockup of the structure to see how it would 'place' on the layout and then started a final model. I drew the plans in my CAD and printed out full HO scale sheets. I haven't ordered the windows and roofing/siding yet but that will come soon. Just wanted to update what I have done so far. Looking forward to the finished model on the layout next to my lighthouse.
Bob I don't know who made it but with the limited number of angles I would say it would be a pretty straight forward building to scratch build. If it had of been a fsm kit would it not have been littered with castings?
Yeah, I guess it will become available as soon as the paint dries! I like what they did with the 'well worn' version though. Keep the info coming, maybe I can hold off until after Christmas on the scratch building. Just got my Soundtraxx Soundcar decoder, so I have an immediate project that requires my attention, but the fish building is still on my work bench in the 'next' slot.
