Hilarious experince with " take a train to work " day
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, November 8, 2004 6:39 PM
I don't work ( I am only 13 ) and last year, I was pondering about how do participate in " take a train to work" day. I am homeschooled, but I take a class with other homeschoolers for Latin. I brought a train ( a Model Power alco century loco decorated for the MKT ) to Latin class and set it on the table in front of me. everyone thought i was wierd ( very true ) and it was hilarious ! I finished my quiz bfore everyone else and I started petting the train. this got on one girl's nerves so much, it distracted her and my teacher wouldn't let me pet the train[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D] Me and my friend are both going to bring trains to class this year. Good Times !

Buy your books and send ya to school . . . no wait . . . your homeschooled. Nevermind. [;)]

Pretty funny Alex. [:D]

Now will this be the same teacher or a different one?

Make sure you train your teacher right. [;)] [:D]

Nice to see you have a "train'd pet"!

I remember when I was in 8th grade (I'm 40 years old now) and I had a Model Railroader magazine in a folder at school. A classmate thought it was a porno magazine and told on me. The teacher was going to embarass me in front of the class by making me show what was in the folder. Everyone fell into laughter when I pulled out the magazine. I, too, was thought of as weird for being a model railroader. I think it was jealousy because when you grow up people don't think that of you. In fact, people say they think my hobby is way cool and look up to me.

My friends could never figure out my obsession with model railroading. But they always wanted to watch my trains. Figure that out...[^]

Alex, Your teacher was a little over- reactive. She should have waited for you to give the locomotive a scratch under the pilot.

i think only 2 of my friends know i have trains, well 3 actually. one has probably forgotten the other dated my friend who's dad got me into the hobby.

none of my friends will find out until they are up in my bedroom, which never happens, then they'd have to walk into the room. i brought a MRR to school last year and started to read it then some of my friends came in so i was like screw this. sometimes i'll be sitting in study hall or one of my easy classes and just want to come on here and browse or go to another site.

when is take your train to work day? if i have to work i might box one up and throw it in my car for work. i deliver pizza so i'll be in my car the whole night. otherwise there would be no chance in heck i'd bring a loco to work.

For my art final last year we could do a "free-form" project (Meaning just about anything artsy). I weathered an altas boxcar based on a picture i found in a book.

I got a A.

My response would have been, "I'm in a class learning a language that's been dead for almost a thousand years, and petting a train is wierd???"

Actually petting a train is wierd, but if it got a rise out of the girl it's worth it

Latin is not quite dead - Lawyers, Doctors, & various scientists use it, not to mention preachers. It is the root language for Spanish, French, Italian, and probably some others. Well, if you find it easier - have at it.
I don't pet my locos too much. Bells, whistles, and etc. too scratchy (to me!) [:D]

To Fergmiester: another definition of "expert" is that "ex" is a has been and "spurt" is a drip under pressure. Always works well to break the ice when I'm introduced as a speaker as the "expert."

Latin is not dead. I read Latin daily with my sixteen-year-old son. HE is the one who insists on this. Granted we read out of the Lutheran Book of Concord of 1580, which is fairly arcane, but if we're reading it, it can't be dead--can it?
