Walt, checked the site just now, sent to www.railfannet, which advised the site was being completely rebuilt and if you want to be kept advised of progress join a Yahoo Group (link provided) and receive news about it.

Let's hope railroad.net/forums is not down as long as Atlas was! I did not see any flame wars breaking out, but them I only ever looked in four of the many forums. There were a couple of overenthusiastic youngsters in them sometimes though!

A source on the Atlas Forum site (one of the two BEST forum sites, the other being "the Gauge") tells me that they were having flame problems with certain forum members. They should re-open (as the Atlas Forum site did) with better controls in place.

True, but my point was, that's not the way to manage a website! I constantly redo my company website but I don't disable it while I work on a new one. I creat the new one and then in one process I replace the old one....seamlessly.

That was a very active site and to take it down without notice just doesn't look professional...my opinion for what it's worth!(grin)

Kind of like, Shazam and it's gone! Does anyone know the real story behind the dropping of the Railroad Net Model forum? I know the main page says that a new site is coming, but, most companies would not drop a active site cold turkey. They would get the second one ready and overnight replace it. This has been gone for four days now! Just wondering.....Walt
