Whistling

I find it strarnge that Mr. Otte never steps in on one of these threads to clarify the Magazines position, but regularly steps in on others.

Mine has been here for at least three weeks.

I first subscribed in 1965 and the issues came with mailing labels on the front covers.  Rarely if ever did they arrive damaged.  After a couple of years they switched to brown paper envelopes.  Then back to labels on the covers.  Then plastic bags.  Kalmbach has tried various concepts.  I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times have I had to contact customer service to replace a damaged copy or request one that never arrived -- not a bad track record for what will soon be 50 years of subscribing (and more than that of reading).

They were so packaged when they were all mailed from the printer's. Kalmbach had a notice about this several years ago. Now the are shipped by a third party carrier to regional USPS distribution points, so all the post office is doing is the "last two miles." Apparently Kalmbach found this faster, more cost effective, and did not require the plactic overslip.

The advertizing over-cover only appears when they want to advertize something, IIRC, it is not on every issue. It was never ment to be.

Digital edition of January's mag arrived yesterday..... always in perfect condition, always on time, and never read by the postman.   Takes up a lot less space than the paper one, too.

Never mind December's copy, January edition has arrived today, in the UK too!

Must be a record early!

When I was a letter carrier, some time ago, we were strongly discouraged from reading other peoples' mail. Most of the carriers just wanted to cover their routes, and go home. The "mailman reading my magazine" is pretty much a myth.

LOL, In my case it wasn't....My mailman told me He looked through it and was very much interested. For Christmas, I gave him a gift sub. We have become very good friends. I'm in my seventies, He early sixties.

They used to come packaged in clear plastic....but I think the Mail carriers complained, because they didn't get a chance to read them. LOL. Aside from that, I got mine the 27th of Oct. in and around there every month, but I only live 4 1/2 hours from where they are printed and the bindery they send them to, the same. Tis' the season, to have late mail. It took ten days, for my friend in the UK to get the package I sent Him, using USPS, Priority flat rate. I thought that was great!

Another thing I have noticed is that there is no longer the advertising covers on the issues.  The first several issues of 2014 had a nice durable paper with advertisements that protected the magazine.  I really wish Kalmbach would put that advertising cover on all their issues.

If you mean the outer cardstock wrapper with advertisements for other Kalmbach publications, that was indeed wrapped with the December 2014 MR - in fact it technically worked as I noticed Jeff Wilson has come out with a new Industry book "Grain" which I may be interested in (the other new Industry book "War" I'm not really interested in).

I personally like them because they protect my magazine from being damaged when it is mailed. I think the February (?) issue also had one as well.  I have been disappointed that most of the issues don't have the card stock cover.

I will contact customer service tomorrow.  I think my issue was lost by the USPS.

Pretty much the same as most others, I got mine back in early November. Just contact Customer Service. They will fix you up.

Got mine almost 2 weeks ago - got my Digital copy even earlier. Since I added Digital to my subscription, I've usually read the issue before the paper copy comes in the mail. I think at least the last 3 months stacked up here have never even been opened, unless the mailman read them before putting them in my box.

I once had an issue come completely torn up. Quick call to customer service and they sent me out a replacement. So if it doesn't show up soon, give them a call, they are quite helpful.

AFAIK, standard subs to MR are handled by bulk mail, although there are now several originating locations IIRC. As such, it's subject to seasonal delays like other bulk mail. It's typically handled as expeditiously as possible, but may be put off a few days when things are running heavy.

You have the usuall holiday catalogs this time of year, also bulk mail, plus the election season usually still sees lots of mailers, which typically are a higher class of bulk mail and are prioritized over the rest of it.

So it's possible for delays to creep in. Almost two weeks later, I'd say those reason have had time to sort themselves out. Call Kalmbach customer service and they'll most likely agree it's time for a replacement copy.

The article on Jim Gore's Chili Line was in the Dec. Issue, and there has been an active thread about it running for a few days (although a Subscriber extra may have been the impetus for that thread). For the record, I received my issue (Long Island in NY) either Saturday (Nov 1) or Monday (Nov 3), can't really remember.

I got my December issue on or around the 1st.  I always thought I was one of the last people to get my MR as others would have been talking about what is in their issue a week; or, more in advance of when I got mine.  I don't feel so left behind, now!
