Caboose track
Posted by fwdguy on Monday, November 1, 2004 9:16 PM
Hello,

Where is the caboose track normally?

Would it be in or near the yard or engine terminal?

Just curious where yours is? I have always had one off near my yard.

Thanks,

Mark

Mine's next to the sanding facilty on my layout. I have no idea how prototypical that is, but it's the only place I could find to put it. Actually, with all of my cabeese, I need a separate YARD just to store the cute little suckers.

I have mine next to a small warehouse ( so they can be restocked ) they are next to the engine houses. I dont know if this is correct but I run my cabeese one car behind my Local engines.

The caboose track was normally a short double-ended siding at or very near the yard. A yard switcher would retrieve the caboose and place it on the back of the train while the locomotive crew was getting aboard the engine and running it out from the service facility's ready track to the front of the train.
