Having a spouse that supports one in all that one does like you do is probably the greatest gift a man can have.

PT Man,
It is always a comfort to hear someone pass on to others such heart felt feelings. I believe that if each one of us gave deep thought as to why we get so much pleasure out of this hobby, we would see that there is indeed a lot more to it than what is on the surface. I admire your courage and prey that your illness will never take it and your faith away.

God Bless, REX

The healing hobby?

In addition to the generally recognized benefits of the hobby-- skillbuilding, learning about railroads, fellowship with other modellers, trips to train shows, running trains, etc., etc., the hobby has provided me another plus. It helps me focus on something other than the ominous threats of a deadly disease. I have been able to construct a rather large layout with the help of oxygen made necessary by a severely limiting lung ailment. It is the prostate cancer which my doctors have termed incurable that I am able to block from my mind to some extent when I am immersed in some aspect of the hobby. I am sustained through the prayers of many friends, but having the time, place, and encouragement of my wife to focus on my layout has been a real godsend.
