Historic Rail

I ordered a steamer from them back at the end of July...and waited...and waited...and...

I didn't contact them sooner because I thought I had read something about allowing 6 to 8 weeks for the order to be delivered (though I don't know why something in stock should actually take anywhere near that long).

But by the end of September I finally called and asked where my order was, he checked, and said it had been shipped September 23 or some such. Oh, okay, I should have it any day then. BUT, It took another week or so before it FINALLY showed up. So it took a couple weeks total for it to even get delivered after they shipped it out? Sounds like a really **** poor system to me. And I was ready to call again and have them put a trace on the order because by then I saw they had already charged it to my VISA card.

Someone said they were a clearing house or some such. I kinda feel you shouldn't advertise for sale something unless you actually have it in stock, with rare exceptions. Apparently then, they're just a middle man, taking your order, and placing it with the proper supplier. Then waiting for it to get shipped to them, and then they re-ship to you! Sounds kinda hokey to me. Heck, I can do that for people, too. And make a little for myself in the process. [V]

Not sure if I'll be ordering from them again unless it's something unimportant like a RR pin or coffee cup.

I have ordered quite a few things from Historic Rail and I have not had any problems. I normally order by phone and they have let me know at that time how long a wait I would have and they have been pretty accurate on the shipping time.

I am a regular customer of Historic Rail and have not had problems with them.
If you find that an ordered item is taking too long, there is a customer service
number you are able to call and ask where your merchandise is. The rep
will pull up your account and tell you exactly the problem. All that is
required is patience. This business is a clearing house operation and
takes time. Just be sure to communicate with them while your order is
pending. I have gotten some awesome merchandise from Historic Rail.

I just received an email notifiying me that they have shipped the book I ordered 10/18. The book was "The Railroad".

I ordered a set of videos from them on DVDs through their on-line ordering system, and it took almost a month to receive the order. I'm not sure what their problem is, but it seems that they don't order the merchandise themselves until they have received an order for it.

I always get the Historic Rail catalouge, I never have ordered from them, though.

Has anyone ever placed an order with the Historic Rail company? Did you have to wait very long to receive your order? It's been over a month now, and I'm beginning to wonder if my order was misplaced.
