Nothing beats good old "elbow grease" for cleaning track. I've never found any so called track cleaning cars or whatever that really worked well in 40 years of model railroading. Keeping the layout enviroment dust free and at a low humidity level is the best thing. Use only nickle-silver rails.

I use two centerline track cleaning cars copled together. The first one running soaked with track cleaning fluid , the second one running dry.
Another manufacturer is Aztec.

Hi Rudy what you saying that you don't run them enough you have more problems and have too clean more than usual. Don't get too run them much with my job and here lately when I feel like running I have too stop and clean and that makes me upset and just want too get out of it altogehter although I love trains. Maybe you can share some of your tips. Thanks

Centerline make a great track cleaning car as previously mentioned - I use it regularly as part of my consist using the dry method as I belive using Goo Gone only attracks more dust and dirt and creates problems with engines going up grades. Run your trains often - I also use boxcar equipped with sliding masonite pad a la John Allen which keeps track clean - of course a relatively dust free room also helps - only use liquids to clean really incrusted track - which you should not get if you run your trains often with above two methods - works for me should also work for u - give it a try

Hi Bill,

Centerline products makes a nice car that works well on my O-gauge pike. They make a cleaning car for all scales. For heavy cleaning I use the car with Goo-Gone. This cleans the track well but leaves a slight residue. Then I follow-up with alcohol or a regular track cleaning fluid. This removes any residue that remains. The rollers that come with the car car be washed and re-used many times.

What is the best of the rolling stock/rolling stock-mounted/engine-mounted track cleaners? I have a multilevel HO layout with many areas that are tough to clean by hand - any ideas on my best options?
