what happened to the red caboose? they were in that same building and moved to a basement location directly across the street which used to be the train shop ltd. is manhattan trains a new name or a separate business. i was down there last year and the red caboose was still in business then.

I was in Manhatten last year and sought out their store after seeing their ads in MR. I too, had trouble figuring out which entrance was theirs. They were closed anyways as it was a Sunday morning.

On a side note, NYC makes for a great weekend trip. Stay a night or two in a nice hotel right on Times Square.... all kinds of great things to do and see and Manhatten Trains is only a block or so off Times Square. Ive been there twice in the last year and plan on going back. Not cheap but makes for a fun weekend.

They have been there for years and the last time I visited them it reminded me of all the old time model train stores that my Dad and I used to frequent when I was a kid living in Queens. My Grandmother lived on the lower East side of Manhattan within easy walking distance of Polks, AHC, AC Gilbert's home office/showroom, ditto Lionel's, and Madison Hardware to name a few, in addition to Manhattan Trains, which I believe was run by Carmen Webster way back then. Admittedly, the entrance doesn't look particularly inviting - at least the last time I was there - but when you go down the stairs, it was like taking a step back in time - at least until the reality of today's prices jolts you back to reality and present day. It's a wonderful store.

Funny side note.

About a month ago I was standing in front of their building (because I saw the sign as I was walking back to Grand Central) couldn't figure out which entrance was theirs they were not ground floor... and walked away. My loss I guess.

I just ordered a P1K subway set and 2 sets of the Blair sidewalk elevators. Got the subway and one of the elevators (granted, the elevators are probably not great sellers so I can understand the backorder) in less than a week. Several months ago I ordered 3 of the subway sets. I got two of them within a week. The other took about a month to get (it was the redbird set which hadn't hit the streets yet). It was sent within a few weeks of it being available and I wasn't charged extra shipping. As an aside, apparently UPS lost the package. I called and spoke to the guy at Manhattan trains. He wanted to check some things out. I got a phone call from him in about 30 minutes after he checked UPS tracking. The box was apparently lost and he sent a new one out that very day. Although I wished that I had gotten a "heads up" of when the backorder was filled, I was impressed that the gentleman I spoke to was very responsive and seemed sincerely concerned that the problem be fixed. I like that.
While I still prefer Modeltrainstuff.com and Internettrains.com, I have no complaints about Manhattan Trains.

Can anyone tell me if Manhattan Train is a good company to do business with? I'm looking to purchase Peco code 83 track and turnouts and they are one of the few who are offering any for sale.
