N Scalers, What locomotives would you like to see manufactured ?
Posted by boomer5344 on Saturday, October 23, 2004 10:41 PM
Just wondering which locomotives would you like to see offered in N scale
that haven't been made before OR recently (Kato/Atlas style drive).
Here are my picks:

I for one would like a nice selection of 4-8-4 Northerns Mopac 2200, Cotton Belt
800, UP 800 , Frisco, Rock Island class to name a few.
Also:
2-10-4 KCS , C& O, ATSF, T&P
FT"s, F3's, F7's, SD-40-2 in MOPAC, T&P
E3,E6 and E7 in MOPAC

Small locos like:
SW1, GE 44tonner, GE 70tonner, steeple cab electrics

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

A complete choice of modern technology DCC ready(or equipped) steamers would be nice.Add to this a DDA40-X,an Alco Century 855,a Veranda,a Turbine loco,etc...a lot of these have been made in the past but run fair at best.

Well I'm a member of the 'small steam fan club'. The upcoming releases of Model Power's 4-4-0 and 2-6-0 will go a long way in filling the holes in my roster. About all I "need" now are:

1. Bachmann to resolve their search for a suitable small motor and finally release their long promised 4-6-0, and
2. Someone to come out with an Atlantic, preferably 1910-1925 timeframe.

I might pick up one of the Bachmann Decapods when they come out next year, although I don't really "need" it!

Regards

Ed

Any of the GE U-boats both B &C's except the 25-B (Atlas allready does that one to purrfection).

The GP38-2 and both the SD-38 and the SD38-2.

More endcab switchers (no particular one rather have all of them [8D])

As long as I'm dreaming how about an EL style SDP45.It could be done in 4 roadnames.

Yes! SW1500 and steamers, a SP cab forward that's affordable and a performer. RSD 12/15 Alligators, C-415 Switcher. Note to the manufactures- Blinking mars lights on E/F units! If they can put a decoder in, they can sure add that feature. I have 4 HO LL Proto 2000, E-units, and they sure stand out with this feature!

Steam: 0-6-0 & 0-8-0 switchers
Perhaps LL could do a Northern after the Berkshire
Atlas: Follow the Shay with a Climax, Heisler, perhaps a boxcab
also convert & import Tomix/Micro Ace small steamers

Diesel: A good running F40. Bring on the cowls!
Switchers: MP15 units, Green Goats, GP38-2, Baldwin center-cabs,
new Arnold S2, etc
Road Units: F9, F7 early GE's, Alco Centuries, FA4

Hope the good people at Atlas, Kato, LifeLike, Bachmann, Model Power, & others read these posts for future production!

It seems to me N scale would have the most large articulateds made, but no, HO wins. In N, they can have much wider curves. And a massive articulated such as a YELLOWSTONE or CHALLENGER, would have no trouble as at 1:160, its small.
You have more space and clearance for articulates in N. I wonder why only 2 plastic ones exist.

Even though I'm not in N. I say....

1. NP Z-8 4-6-6-4
2. SP AC-11 4-8-8-2
3. DMIR M-3 2-8-8-4
4. GN R-2 2-8-8-2
5. UP CSA 4-6-6-4
6. WP 2-8-8-2
7. N&W A 2-6-6-4

I think they'd be cool to look at that shrunken down.

A decent GP38-2. Atlas' GP38 is a great model, but they haven't done a -2 version. Perhaps Life Like, since they updated their HO one? Oh yeah, and a decent -840c! (Not wide cab).

I agree with eveyone. There are a lot of significant locomotives not produced in N scale. I am sure we will see more HO offerings trickle down to N as in the case of Spectrum, LL, Atlas and Athearn.

A nice SP AC-12 as well a other large articulated stean locomotives would sell very well.

SW1500's and SW1001's and better C40-8's and C40-8W's (hopefully Atlas will make them in the near future).

I'd like the SW1500, a GE 70 ton, and the GP15-1 to start.

Goodness. A board with more N scale steam fans than most. Many of these boards are full of diseasel fans in N.

N scale needs:

A ten-wheeler

An Atlantic

A prairie ( a real one, not a USRA 0-6-0 with pilots and trailers)

A twelve-wheeler

A USRA 0-8-0.

Previously manufactured but in need of improvement:

USRA heavy pacific

USRA 0-6-0

PRR K-4

The MP eight-wheeler and mogul are good news. I just hope that they make the tenders have all-wheel pick-up and the locomotives have traction tyres.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Thanks to all those to replied so far, I hope the manufacturers see this.

I think we'll see a USRA 0-8-0 from Lifelike since they are making it in HO.

Keep the suggestions coming!

ALCO SWITCHERS!!!!!! S-1, S-2, S-3, S-4. I don't know if the Arnold S-2 is still in production, but I had one and it ran horribly. Maybe Life-Like could make the S-1 and S-3 in N scale.

I am new into N scale, but there are still some locomotives I'd like to see, made at an affordable price, of course.

Any 2-10-4 Texas class, preferably The Pennsy J-1.
The Pennsy S2 Turbine
The Baldwin Centipede
The Union Pacific 4-12-2 Steamer
Union Pacific Steamotive Steam Turbine
Union Pacific "Big Blow" Turbine
The Jawn Henry
The C & O M-1
The Pennsy T1 Duplex
Both Pennsy Q1 and Q2 Duplexes
The Pennsy S1 Duplex
The ACE 3000
The Triplex, either Erie or Virginian
ALCo Century 855
Krauss-Maffei ML4000, both cab and hood units
The Little Joe Electric
The DD1
The W1 Cascade
The Baldwin Westinghouse Blue Goose Turbine

And there is probably more, but, these are the biggest ones I'd like to see. I would have listed the Veranda, but I own a Con-Cor CSX Veranda, which is good enough for me.

I second all of Trainfreak409's suggestions!
Especially the C&O, PRR, ATSF 2-10-4's KCS and TP had them too!

also the suggestion for a upgraded good running ALCO S series. Lifelike???

Agree with my steam loco friends above, especially need ten wheelers.

Also, while we're at it, I need 'really' small power for N scale rail cars, to fit a galloping goose or a converted white bus.
