Santa Fe Layout in GMR...I want those reefers!!!

Does anyone recognize the reefers in the photo's of Ted York's Santa Fe layout?? They look awesome and I'd like to run some! Does anyone know who they are made by?

Wes--haven't seen the GMR yet, but since the Santa Fe reefers you describe are awesome, they might be the ones from Intermountain. I have a couple, and they're INCREDIBLY authentic! Check with Caboose Hobbies in Denver, or www.firsthobby.com in Decatur, IL. I think they've advertised them, too. Walthers may have them, I think they're carrying Intermountain, also. Wonderful kits, they're also ready in RTR. Good luck!

My alternative to expensive fancy Intermountain or Red Cabbose reefers are Bluebox Athearn. If I really want the detail up there, I'll trim offf the grab irons and add seperate metal ones. Nice weathering covers up the surface imperfections. Replace the plastic wheels, add kadees......there you have it.

Those reefers are Intermountain, how do I know? I've seen them up close as they went past my nose..[:D]. Ted is a freight car junkie but he only buys cars which are correct for the 1954 to 1957 time frame he models. He may have some Walthers and Athearn blue box cars on there but you would never know it because he details the crap out of them.

It's quite possible, Ted will most likely be at the upcoming train show at the fairpark. He will be hanging around the Utah Free-mo guys as he has built a module. Your best bet is to find him and introduce yourself. I unfortunatly have been somewhat of a recluse as I am caring for my elderly parents, and holding down a full time job as well, (leaves almost no time for trains). I do plan on going to the show but just what day is still up in the air.

Ted has a surprising amount of Accurail and Athearn blue box cars. Usually the only extra detailing involves replacing the cast on stirrup steps with A-line parts, followed by weathering. When you're there running trains, the simple addition of the scale steps helps these undetailed cars look much better than they really are; as a viewer or operator you can easily be fooled into "seeing" better detailed cars than are actually there.
