Posted by leewal on Friday, October 22, 2004 11:12 AM
Just purchased IHCs Royal American Shows 8 passenger cars & the SD24 loco. Changed all couplers on the cars to knuckle (McHenry) but can't figure ot how or what couplers to use on the locos. Sent e-mail to IHC. Never responded. Any ideas?

The IHC Locomotive will easily accept a KADEE Coupler #5. Although the magic mate coupler made by IHC can also be used since it was design to connect with both Hook Horn and Knuckle couplers such as KADEE.

However, DO NOT FEEL ALONE about not receiving a reply from IHC on an email. Ron Moyer current President CEO for IHC needs to realize that good business is answering customers and dealers alike with any issues big or small. IHC is a superb company with many wonderful employees from the front deck, to the wharehouse.. Yet in any business, we all have room for imporvement. If IHC had to improve only one thing, I would recommend "CUSTOMER SERVICE".

IHC Owner, Bernie Paul is a superb business man who listens. He started in the hobby business in 1938 with Quaker City Model Railroad Shop. In the late '50s, Bernie started Associated Hobby Manufacturers to import European-made American prototype HO model railroad products. Best known for early RIVAROSSI imports. In the late 80's, Bernie founded IHC to continue to import model railroad products, expanding the range to include unique and innovative items.

an express your concerns about customer reply. Like you, I love the Royal American line and look forward to a new release "FREEDOM TRAIN" coming this 2004 Christmas.

Coupler pocket of the SD24 has a post to accept Rivarossi and McHenry style "push in" coupler but the box is too narrow to accept the McHenry's 2 centering springs. If the post is removed to allow a Kadee brass centering spring to sit flat with the #5 there would be nothing to keep the coupler in the box unless I used a Kadee box which would require a lot of modification. The entire pocket can't be removed because it's part of the gear cover snap on. I'll try the Magic Mate. Maybe IHC will read this post.
