New MR Editor
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 9, 2002 9:02 AM
I just read Russ Larson's press release about Kalmbach's selection of a new editor for MR. I think Terry Thompson is a great choice!

I've been a longtime reader of Finescale Modeler because there's always some good modelbuilding tips that can be applied to model railroading. I truly liked the changes Terry made to FM after he took over the editorship of that magazine. I look forward to seeing what he will do with MR.

Congratulations, Terry, but I'm sure you'll be missed at FM.

I forgot to add this: Congratulations, Tom C., on your return as editor of Trains.com. And now that you're back...

What would be the chances of revamping this forum so that all of the posts in a thread can be read in line, rather than having to read each one individually? It's really time consuming for those of us who don't have DSL service to read individual posts and then go back to the top of the individual thread to find the next posting. Just a thought....

Take a look at the software used @ www.thegauge.com. Puts all threads in a line and will even notify you by e-mail when there is a reply to your post. Something similar would be ideal for this forum...Vic

Adobe Software uses the same scheme in its User-to-User forums for PageMaker, PhotoShopt, etc.. Each thread can be read in line; having to move to the next page is dictated only by the length of individual posts and how many of them your screen can accomodate (typically 5 or 6 at a time.) Additionally, a participant can bookmark and/or subscribe to specific threads. I agree, Vic, something similar would be ideal for this forum - especially given how many new threads and postings are made here on a daily and weekly basis. This is a pretty busy forum.

Actually, we are looking at a different way to handle the forums. I'm afraid I can't promise an immediate change because we're looking at revamping a number of things at Trains.com to make the entire site easier to read and navigate, but these electrons can be tricky to handle. I'll check out the suggestions you offered here or any other suggestions anyone may have.

And Mike, thanks for the congrats.
