Anybody else here modeling with Marklin Trains?

today I met the guy who build the module I posted the picture of and he told me it is an older KIBRI model, a 2 stall engine house, minimal kitbashed, just weathered, he build in a switchmachine in the higher back part of the building to open and shut the doors.
there was also a welding light built in the back.

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of European Train Enthusiasts (www.ete.org) has a very active HO and HOm modular special interest group. 28 modules will be used at the Blackhawk Automobile Musuem in Danville, CA during the holiday season starting Thanksgiving weekend until 9 Jan. Mostly Marklin is run but 3 rail AC and 2 rail DC from many European manufacturers also run on these award winning modules. There will also be a Lionel display in a nearby adjoining room. I am going to a big trainshow tomorrow, the modular layout is going to be there and the engine servicing terminal is always part of it as it has a reversing loop build in, I will ask them details and post those later

I'm Bill in Baltimore, md. area. I have a large collection of marklin & in process of bulding a new 26 X 34
room for the layout. I have been building modual for the layout in between moves.

Many Märklin enthusiasts are also members of European Train Enthusiasts which is an organization of modelers (all scales, gauges & systems) and enthusiasts of European trains. The ETE is headquartered in Sacramento CA but has chapters in many parts of North America. Check out www.ete.org for more information about the ETE. Sure! From time to time. I have Euro DC but our club does both AC and DC. Yes, I am in the Sacramento Area and Tim White pointed out we have a nice display every year at the Roseville Railfair (November 13-14 this year) and yes we run em all. I have old family Maerklin that we oil up and stick on the tracks. One is from 1957, the rest range from then to 1968. Not a one of them has trouble running. Maerklin is getting better all the time in terms of scale and accuracy. Right next to the AC layout, we'll have DC Swiss (majority) prototype running too, snaking through a lakeside vineyard. We are not afraid of running unusual brass stuff, either. Oh, yeah, there's Amurrican stuff at the show too. Nice On3, Sn3, O, HO, what-have-you in modular layouts. If readers are in the area, do drop by. Great rainy day activity.

I bought a G scale marklin for my wife a few years back, we love it. its not the same scale as the rest of our g stuff, but its so smooth and quiet, I cant get myself to run anything else. we dont have any other marklin items.

I'm a marklin collector and have been since 1953, still have my original pieces and they still run great. Says a lot for quality.

Try contacting the MEA (Marklin Enthusiasts of America). They have member lists for all over the country. I think on the forum there are a couple of Marklin guys...I used to run Marklin (40 years+) and tore out a large Marklin layout last year. I have gone over to the "dark side" and am running two rail North American prototype DCC.

I can also reccomend Scott at Helmets hobbies for repairs and stuff. He is very knowledable and does great repair work. He has an ad in MR from time to time. The quality of Marklin gear is fantastic. They didn't have enough US prototype for me.....

I don't but there must be several out here in my area (Sacramento, CA), because both of my LHS have Marklin stock. I know that every year during our MRR show in Roseville, there's a large contingent of modelers who set up a really nice European layout with Marklin equipment, it always draws a pretty big crowd. I do have some european equipment that I run occasionally, but it's 2-rail Roco (Swiss Crocodile, I'm big on articulateds, steam OR electric).

HO scale, although I did once have a small z scale layout, just a bit to small for me, and I didnt like the looks of any of the steam locos in that scale. I am running the new DB class 01-10 pacific which has the C-sine motor and full sound. Cheers Mike
