They where down for a few days this week, but as of last night they seamed to be back up and running.

Well, I was cleaning up my extensive Favorites list on my primary browser and came across the Train Life link. For the heck of it I clicked on the link, and...found something a bit different (more like c.1970 John Cleese saying "And now for something completely different"). I'll just quote this part

Just went to the site and browsed magazines. No thimbnails but links to magazines work. Have been able to open and read (3/4 or more pages) of every magazine I tried.
Edit: Apparently some of the magazine photos lost. Example: Prototype Modeler Sept 1986 Pages 1 thru 20 and 31 thruo 48 work in "Magazine View" (text and photos). Pages 21 thru 30 only work in "Text View" (can read text but no photos)
Also Text View is not working on many of the other magazines.
As a guess, I think that as much as 3/4 of the total magazine content may be accessable. However I only spot checked a few magazines,
I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.
I don't have a leg to stand on.
LenS betamax TrainLife's system crashed a few months ago, and they are still trying to recover and get it working again. But they don't have a full time staff to do it. BTW, The owner of Exactrail is the force behind TrainLife. The information on the Member's Home page dated 10/8/14 provide some explanation. The conversation is still available, just not any visuals. Might be, but the "visuals" are the about the only thing I go to TL for since the conversations don't seem to be much more than FB style postings - which I found of minimal use to me unless I was missing something altogether.
When the fix the broken links to magazine articles, this will be the BIG fix that makes TL the most useful.

Thats the most I've heard since the links of the magazines scans broke months ago. Thanks for the update - at least we have some hope TL will be back up and running.
I have many of the magazines they offer online in boxes hear at home, and because internet resources are so ephemeral, I am going to keep them. That being said, TL does have copies of some magazines I don't have so I'm glad they exist and hope they will be back up and running soon. There are a few articles I would like to view.

Money or the lack of it. That site was a great resource and if they went to a reasonable yearly fee, I would pay. Or sell some add space like Joe does.

5 Months later and there is still no mention as to why the scanned magazine pages are not showing-up. It is only the framework of the website that is there. The data links are not activating.

So, the only solution is to copy down and save to disc while you can- I did this about a year ago with the old Boy's Life (Scouting) HO scale layout that was published decades ago- and was available on Trainlife, but you could make a full time career of doing this type of thing for magazine articles, and then have no time for your own modeling!
Hope Trainlife gets the photo links back up!

I checked a couple weeks ago and noticed the picture links were broken, which means you couldn't view magzine articles - which was really the only thing Trainlife was useful to me for. Not only has Trainlife been down, so has Fallenflags.org. which went down due to lack of funding, although it may be restored in the near future. All this highlights to me, the internet may be a great thing, but it also can be rather ephemeral and undependable for a reliable source of photo's and data. I saved the IE favorites off of an old PC and many of the links are now non-functional. So basically, as nice as the internet is, I've learned I can't depend on it - it may be here today, but things I depend on often are gone tomorrow since those who maintain certain resources lose interest, run out of money or other things and boom - resource is gone. Back to Trainlife - I actually have many of the issues of ModelRailroading and RailModelJournal from the 1990's which have great articles on prototype freight cars and in some cases models. The lesson I have learned here is - don't get rid of those magazines because Trainlife may not continue to be available, great as it is. I imagine it is tempting with nice recources online, to dump boxes of magazines in favor of the online ability to read them and access data and photo's. What happens when we get rid of the magazines but we can't see them online anymore. Bummer! There seems to be a lesson here to think about. Cheers, Jim

I've been having the same problem. I posted a query to them, no response, but another forum dweller (on another site) claimed he'd seen a message from Trainlife that they were aware of a problem but didn't have a techie on staff that could solve it. I fear they may be dying which is a bummer, since their having Lionel's "Model Builder" magazine was great. We can only hope they get their "problem" sorted out.

I used your 'front page link' and got right to it. WIN7/Chrome. Looking at videos seems to work as well. Looking at pictures - I have the same prolbem you describe. I did not know that Trainlife was still around. I remember getting a free T-Shirt from them at a show some years ago, but I have never really looked at the site.

Went over to trainlife recently, and at least in IE and Chrome no images are displayed (just the broken image link icon). Apparently people are still posting videos on that site, but no blog posts since April, so the site seems somewhat still active.I am not a member so maybe that's a issue, although it wasn't an issue a few months back.Any info?
