The Ten Commandments of Forum posting.
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 8:33 AM
I joined the Digitrax Yahoo user's group yesterday. Along with instructions on how to use the Digitrax Forum, came the following 10 Commandments of emailing:

The 10 Commandments of Email

Thou shalt include a clear and specific subject line.

Thou shalt edit any quoted text down to the minimum thou needest.

Thou shalt read thine own message thrice before thou sendest it.

Thou shalt ponder how thy recipient might react to thy message.

Thou shalt check thy spelling and thy grammar.

Thou shalt not curse, flame, spam or USE ALL CAPS.

Thou shalt not forward any chain letter.

Thou shalt not use e-mail for any illegal or unethical purpose.

Thou shalt not rely on the privacy of e-mail, especially from work.

When in doubt, save thy message overnight and reread it in the light of
the dawn.

And, here's the "Golden Rule" of E-Mail:

That which thou findest hateful to receive, sendest thou not unto
others.

Now, some of you might think; "Mr. DeSchane, do as you have posted, and not as you do!" To this I say; "So it is written, so shall it be"!

Wow! Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner have joined the MR forum. Seriously, good rules to ponder for ANY forum, Mark! (I capped because my Italics key doesn't work)

Modular railroading at its best!
If it has an X in it, it sucks! And yes, I just had my modeler's license renewed last week!

I see that the science of posting has reached a new "fevor"

However, posting prophet, is it not blasphemy to speak of the heathen forums on this site? Shame, sayeth the people. SHAME!

just kidding.

Sounds good to me. Especially the part that says:

"That which thou findest hateful to receive, sendest thou not unto others."

One question though. If there's already a thread going where we're actively flaming someone (who soundly deserves it), is that thread "grandfathered in" under the old rules and can we continue flaming while that thread continues?? [:D]

Regards
