There are many things we no longer need to know, so to make room in our brains to learn new stuff, we stop teaching the old. The point I was trying to make is that if you got computers figured out to the point of being able to post a question, then two wires to a track should be a piece of cake.

Dang kids these days don't even know how to set up a typewriter! Do me a favour, hold my whiskey bottle while I get some gunpowder for my musket.

Dang kids don't know how to crank start their cars.  They just hop in, turn the key, and their off.

Steve S

They don't even need to turn a KEY anymore soon either.

We test drove a Nissan Sentra "Special edition" {not so special...3 dealers in town had one in stock}. It has a fob. you carry it in your pocket, or on you key chain hanging form your belt or in your purse or whereever on your person. WHen you get close to the car it unlocks, and when you get in you just turn the "ignition" {NO key needed}and it starts up based on PROXIMITY to the wireless fob! You NEVER have to take the fob out of yor pocket!

It is coming I think to all cars! Might be a convenience factor, but really?

Just thnk at 16 or 17 little Johnny or Sally can ask mom or dad "can I have the FOB on Saturday night?"

SO as to not confuse  a young person, I will start NOT cranking with a key!

OH, and wearing a wrist watch is becoming an "old" thing too,. The young'uns rely on their smart phones to tell time with..in digital format only and someone told me they don't teach how to read  a dial clock anymore!

....but don't know how to dial a rotary phone.

Why in the world would they need to know that?  It's like complaining that they don't know how to use punchcards to operate their computers.

I can use a rotary dial but have trouble with a cell 'phone. [fat fingers] Until the last four months my "PENMANSHIP" was still excellent . Hands have gotten shakey.

Make's one wonder, what is actually taught now-a-days in schools. My eldest Daughter who is a private school teacher for many years now have this discussion from time to time and I have asked Her on occasion, why She does not want to teach publicly, I said they make more money. Her reply was that She would rather make less money and teach kids who want to learn something and parents that care about their childrens education, then what is lacking publically. What I find really annoying to a degree, is the lack of common sense teaching, seems like it disappeared. Maybe I am just too old and behind the times, Eh?

They barely  teach them how to hand write, period, let alone go through the time and expense of teaching cursive writing!

All they are taught about cursive writing anymore is how to assimilate "writing" their name for signing documents! That is it!

I am not so sure they even do grammar or diagraming sentences anymore.

So as to not give away my age, or to 'confuse a younger person", I have started writing my checks by printing them instead of cursively writing them out.

We found out that the school no longer teaches cursive writing when my 15 year old granddaughter couldn't read a birthday card we sent her.  Now WE are teaching our 6 year old grandson to read  cursive at the same time he is learning to read.

Since learning that I have been noticing some of the bizarre ways young people hold pens when they are printing.  That is apparently something else the schools no longer teach.

It amazes me how kids these days can use a computer but don't know how to dial a rotary phone.

Its a sad time when one needs to look up their home phone number on their cell phone.I remember when phone numbers had to be remembered so,we could use those dial phones..Now,push #8 for home.#1 for your BFF.

LOL

Considering that the OP posted the thread nearly 6 weeks ago, it went unaswered, and then today gets 11 replies, I think that the OP has left the room, if not the forum.  His only 3 posts came early on a Saturday morning and late on a Sunday evening.  Perhaps he was on Spring Break and was bored?

It might be that our OP was being blinded by science in the replies he got. I read his original post to be "do I have to use Bachmann track with Bachmann controllers and is it OK to the use the controller with Atlas track, in which case, how." In other words a VERY raw beginner asking if controllers and track are totally proprietary in this hobby.

That was my take too(I had to reread the question) and I plum forgot the Bachmann controller's track wires plug into the terminal track unlike the Atlas terminal track that uses screws..

If that was his question he received a lot of advice only vaguely related to it.

But I do agree that there are alot of posters who ask for help and then seem to disappear forever.  True, posting can quickly get buried and hard to find (although less buried now than years ago).  Perhaps they are not aware that the Forum allows them to track "Your Discussions."

That seems to be the way of forums..Ask a question, get some excellent advice and nothing more is said by the op.

I got a bachmann controller, but i dont know how to connect it to atlas code 100 track. Help or should i use ez track so its easier to modify when i get a dcc train?

Ok, slow down, and give us more information, that would be helpful to us, please!

Do you have a Bachmann EZ Command DCC controller? Is tha why you mention "when I get a DCC train"? It comes with an electrical connector or wires that can be clipped/screwed to an Atlas connector track, or soldered into place.

Or do you have a plain Bachman DC transformer type controller? That later you will convert to a DCC System?

In any case, the same info can apply:

Personally I would avoid EZ Track, as we tried it in N scale and the switches{turnouts} did not work well. SOme on here use the EZ Track HO and fiddle with them to get them working.

In any case, Atlas used to make and hobby dealers used to carry the Atlas rail joiner/wire connector pieces, which are now very hard to find. shown now back in stock here:

http://www.wholesaletrains.com/Detail.asp?Scale=HO&Item=150TRACK100&offset=50&ID=20012095

Or here in stock:

http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Atlas-HO-842-Code-100-Terminal-Rail-Joiners-1-Pair-p/atl-842.htm

What you CAN do, as Mr. B alluded to, is to solder theconnecting wires to the existing Atlas rail joiners, or to the sides of the rail itself.

Atlas Also makes a connector track that can the wires can be screwed to. shown in stock here:

http://www.wholesaletrains.com/Detail.asp?Scale=HO&Item=150TRACK100&offset=50&ID=20011095

Also, I would suggest you get the wiring books menitoned above too. Click the "SHOP" button in he bold black tool bar above, click on "books' under "popular topics", click on "wiring and electronic series", and you will find books on DCC wiring, which you might want to read, as you mention going to DCC anyway.

Enjoy the hobby, don't get exasperated!

You have not indicated what your layout is like.  Is it a circle on the floor, or are you building benchwork?  Will it be repeatedly  set up and taken down, or will it be a permanent instalation?

Atlas makes track sections with terminals on them, and also rail joiners with wires attached.

But, seriously, if you are going to continue in this hobby, you should learn to solder.  You might also pick up a model railroad book about wiring a layout.

What type of controller is it?  There are many different "Bachmann controllers".  What type of connection are you looking to make?  Solder or rail joiner with wire?  How big is your layout? If it is anything more than the size of a RTR oval you will need more than one connection.
