Randy:

Neat thing to model.

I noticed a little bit of history in the picture. There appears to be the remnants of a roundhouse in the lower right quarter of the first picture. By the look of the trees growing around where the pit used to be I'd say it has been out of service for a long time. I wonder what treasures it still contains if any, if indeed that's what it is.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

And after you handlay that, you'll be ready to move on to a grand union Whistling.

Ya I suspect that's the reason - they couldn't fit in a wye in the space available, but needed one (perhaps to turn cars for unloading nearby at an industry??)

Though it looks odd, it definitely takes up less space than a more traditional wye.  Something to think about should you need a wye on your layout but don't have enough room.  It would also attract a lot of attention from layout visitors.

That is a design that thry missed in the recent article on wyes in MRP(?). Then again, who would believe this design actually existed in real life.

Tuntables are expensive, are a constant maintenace issue, and are a safety issue - Wonder why so many turntables have been retired?

Saw this on Facebook. I guess if you HAVE to make it fit...  Also an addition to the "there's a prototype for everything" list
