Hey Pantherphil- would that HS by chance be Coconino in Flagstaff, AZ?

My name came about, like many others, from bike riding- specifically mountain biking, for which singletrack trails just rock! Incidentally, it fits my layout which is a singletrack mainline too!

Happy RR'ing!

Mike Middle Man .... You grew up in a full house.

My screen name is the same as my model railroad name. "Heartland Division" is a fictional name for a division of the old CB&Q RR before it was merged into Burlington Northern. I wanted to build a layout where I could simulate operations of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy. The prototype railroad served America's Heartland, and I chose that name.

There is a reason I don't post many pictures. (The name was picked more for use on the sister "Trains" site)

I was right in the middle of building my current layout and was still laying the track. I only meant for it to be temporary until I thought of a better one but then I decided that since everyone here on the forum knew me by that handle and because it was kind of unique that I'd better keep it...

RideOnRoad
What about the rest of you?

Well, when first discovered the forum it was a free-for-all concerning registrations, hundreds of thousands of users as I recall.  So it was impossible to find a half way decent screen name that wasn't already taken (and usually by someone who had either never posted or logged in again or posted 1 message a year ago).   I must have spent about a hour trying to find one.  I fiinally just gave up and decided to misspell and go.  I've hated it ever since.  I probably should have switched back during one of the software upgrades when they did a big purge of users freeing up a bunch of good handles.  But I didn't, oh well.

I do belive I will NOT be flying with Mr. B anytime soon.

Me, totally none-creative for this one, first initial, last name. Guess I felt like being a little more professional here compared to most forums and games where I am Megaslug. That one goes back to college and also the movie "A Christmas Story". Friends would come get me for an early class and I'd still be asleep. So when the movie came out, when the little brother can;t move in his snowsuit and falls down and the narrator says "Randy lay there like a slug" a new nickname was born. More than just an ordinary slug, it's Megaslug! Do so wish I still had the awesomely well done illustration my friend did that I had hanging on my dorm wall.

Back in the day of CB radios. I was raising a family and love to fly but after getting all of my pilot ratings and realizing that I couldn't support the family on the pay of a new commercial pilot I bought a fun little airplane called a Yankee (loved that little bird Big Smile) and so my CB handle was Yankee Flyer. Many years later when joining the forum and ask for a screen name that was the first thing that came to mind.

Enjoy the day.

During the two separate winters I spent at the Great Lakes Navy base, I rode the Erie Lackawanna Phoebe Snow between Chicago and my home town.  My wife's (of 46 years) paternal grandfather retired from the Lackawanna RR.

My hometown was served by the Erie, the Lackawanna (DL&W), and the Delaware and Hudson.  I watched lots of trains in my youth.  I could see the Erie and the D&H from my front porch, though they were so far away the noise was almost imperceptible.  I used to ride my bicycle to Bevier St to watch the D&H hump cars.

This topic USED to come up frequently, but has died out  and has not in awhile. people here used to go "oh, no, not again!"

galaxy is short for galaxytimekeeper, my full screen name.

There is a whole long story behind how I got that one. I don't have the time now for that.....maybe later.

When I was a Boy Scout, those of us who were Junior Assistant Scoutmasters got name tags.  My friend that I also did trains with switched a few letters around on mine and came up with "Beasley," which I've been called by my friends ever since.

I'm the lucky one.  He ended up with the nickname "Fungus."

On the Flight Simulator forums, by the way, I'm "Captain Barfbag."

I started a fleet of 1/25tow trucks in the '90s. Southgate sounded like a good name for such a company if located on the south end of a town (where I do in fact live). Now it's the name of my freelanced industrial park, served by SP. I use it on other forums too. Dan

It's simply the initials of my hometown railroad.  While I like many of the other railroads in the home area --- B&O, PRR, NYC, NKP, etc. --- most of my historical railroad research and modeling focuses on the AC&Y RR.  I'm not so sure it was a good idea to choose that name because it could be argued that there are others who have a stronger claim to it than I do; but I guess I'll stick with it because that's the name I'm associated with now.

My handle is the name of my (freelanced) private railway, with the name of the interchange in full:

Tomikawa Tani Tetsudo = Rich Stream Valley Iron Road, with each of the five kanji characters translated separately.

Anyone looking for Tomikawa on a map of Japan is doomed to disappointment.  OTOH, finding the Kiso river and the towns of Agematsu and Kiso-Fukushima wouldn't be particularly difficult.  I changed the names to protect the guilty when I moved a coal mining branch (the TTT) into an area that never produced a single lump.
