Odd CSX Color Scheme
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 1:47 PM
Did this color scheme ever exist, or is it the reason the price is so low? I've never heard of blue trucks before.

Yes, I remember around 1986 after the name CSX became official. If I'm not mistaken, it was nicknamed the "Stealth" paint scheme". A lot of us didnt' like it. Very drab, IMHO.

Around 1988, the more attractive and familiar blue, gray, and yellow scheme showed up which is currently being replaced by the "C&O Wannabe" dark blue scheme..

Actually it was called "Ghost" because it couldn't be seen in the fog. But the MOW paint scheme was / is pretty cool, orange with black type.

Here's a link that you should enjoy.

http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/

It should work, if it doesn't go to your search engine (Yahoo, MSN, etc) and type in
CSX Photo Archives. This sight has a WEALTH of good CSX shots, including units in the "Stealth" or ghost scheme. It can take hours to look at all of the photos. I down loaded at least 40 and use as my wallpaper.

Let us know if it helps.

Cheers and High Greens!

Thom,
I believe all SD60s ordered by CSX were delivered in this scheme. Today, I believe all are in the "Bright Future" scheme or the solid blue with gold scheme. Go to www.trainweb.org look under "directory" for "photographs". Scroll to "CSX photos". When you hit "photos" on the left, go to "by model" and hit "SD60". Unit 8708 will show the later modifications to this scheme. Basically a yellow nose. The blue trucks and fuel tanks are correct for this scheme, but quickly turned mud brown once the unit was placed in service.

Sorry, I didn't mean to duplicate AntonioFP45's post--thats what I get for not reading all the posts thoroughly.

Garr,

Don't apologize. I went to the site and checked some of the other neat categories.

Cheers and Thanks![:D][;)]

The problem with that model is that the trucks are too dark blue. They stand out too much which might be what threw you off.
