Who here is a Firefighter? Or modeled a fire scene or accident.

the reason I ask is I was curious as to who is (like me ) a Firefighter and if the you have incorperated the Job intoo your layout. I use my modeling time as a stress relief and it is something I really enjoy. I have thus far built a Firestation that after assembly will probly get dimantled and kitbashed after my own station and will try to pick up some engines and aparatus to mimic my own Dept. I know this must be twisted but it is real life and I want to have a building fire or accident. I am very proud of my job and just wanted it to be part of my hobbie.

If any one else is a Firefighter or Medic or Police Officer feel free to speak up. I want to hear from you,even if your not in the U.S..Or even if you have something modeled after police or Fire speak up I want to hear what you have done.

You do not have to be any of the above to respond.

i'm not one personally. i don't think i could handle what you see with those jobs. my cousin is a volunteer. just joined a couple months ago. he said he hasn't seen to much stuff yet, one motorcycle accident really messed with him thats about it.

i do however plan on buying some fire trucks and and what not for my layout. i just like the way they look. i'm weird like that. if i find something that i like the looks of i'll buy it.

Polzi--not now, but I put myself through college working as a firefighter for the US Forest Service. And yes, I'm incorporating that into my Yuba River sub in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I have a ranger station complex ready for installation, plus a forest service lookout on the Yuba Buttes, and a late 1940's fire suppression crew, plus some some essential 1940's equipment (tankers, Jeeps, cats and graders), and I just might put in a forest fire scene when I get really going on the scenery. Firefighters? Just substitute the word Hero and leave it at that. That's my opinion.

Well thanks for the reply Hawkso5. As I stated earlier you dont have too be to speak up. This job is just something that pick you I could never be a accountant or banker or come to think of it anything else. It has its moments like any job but for me well worth the time and effort to pursue the job.

twhite thank you for the sentiment on the use of "Hero" but I do not now nor ever have I felt that I should be labeled a Hero I am just an ordinary person doing ordinary things at extraordinary times. But 343 men and women who died 9-11-01 are Heros and my inspiration.

What company(ies) built your apparatus? About the only modern fire engines and fire trucks are made by Boley. They are S&S, they also have pumpers, ladders, and tankers mounted on International chassis/cabs. If you are looking for Pierce, American LaFrance, Ferrara, Beck, KME, LTI, or FMC you'll have to do some kitbashing or scratchbuilding. NJ Interational used to import some late 80s/early 90s Pierce rigs from England (made from metal).

If you can find the NJ Internation kits, they would probably pass for the Pierce. Williams Brother is discontinuing a 1992 Explorer (so I would buy it now), Boley make a tanker that would probably be a very close match.

All that stuff is such small fry compared to my baby. P-23. 3300 gal of water, 500 gal of foam, 500lbs of dry chem, three handlines of 2 1/2" pumping at 200 psi, bumper turret at 250 gpm and the main gun on top, 750/1500 gpm at 200 PSI. THe best thing is that one person can fight the whole truck, freeing up additional people for rescue. I used a smaller version at the fire shown above. About 1000 cars were on fire and a nice 25mph wind to get them really going. They were losing it till our little truck showed up. It only has a 750 gpm cannon and a 1000 gal tank. Still it did a fantastic job. Thats a real firetruck. LOL BIll

Is that the 166th Airlift Group? If so, why is there a C-5 decal on the side of that cra***ruck? Also, what is going on with the C-130 in the background? It appears to be missing its wings and paint.

Very good, that isa P-23 from dover, that i drove for a year. My P-23 looks exactly the same, just didn't have a picture right handy. Can't wait to see it when it finally gets repainted in a couple of years. Going red and white, should look good. Bill

I was a volunteer for about fifteen years. Out here in the "sticks" of SouthJersey all we have is volunteers. I live in the second largest city (area wise) in NJ, about Fifty-three square miles with only about 1700 residents. Served as senior safety officer, a term as vp, and a couple terms as treasurer. Had to back out because of family problems plus involvement in too many other things. Was very proud of being a fireman, and proud of the other volunteers I served with.

Besides we have several trucks and I get to play in the fire, in structures and car fires brush fires, rescues and we handle all the EMS for our little town of around 30,000

but hey at the end of the day we are all Brothers of the Fire Service.

I have been a career firefighter for 28 years now. I have been at the rank of Asst. Chief for the last 12 years. I used to build 1/25 scale fire rigs, mostly scratch, but was envious of all the items available for RR modelers. At the time there was 3 model fire kits in that scale. A rig would take up to 400 hours to build and when you spend 1-2 hours at a setting, it would take a long time.

Anyway notw into railroading, HO scale, and building my first layout. I plan to build our old station built in 1900, and maybe some of the rigs used here, all Mack, in 60's and 70's.

I normally do not discuss my profession, but here I feel I will.
I am a Security Specialist. Started in the Air Force and am still
in the field today ( CIVILIAN ) as a High priority officer.
My actual job now is Federal Security . I have modeled and
incorporated this into my layout. I love to collect the scale ( HO )
police cars and will switch them out around the scenes when I
get to that point. You are very couragious in what you do. I enjoy
knowing that I perform a service of keeping people safe from harm
and they thank ( us ) at our posts.
I 'd like to keep my scenes whimisical even if they are "bloody."
I did one where a guy is bleeding on a rail platform, but the two
young lovers who are kissing on the bench right across from the
bleeding man, never notice. Actually what happened is that I went to
paint the man's tie red and sneezed at an inopertune time and the
brush went all over his chest. Now he is a victim.

I was a Cop for a while (then I came to my senses lol) I dont want anything really grusome just stuff from the job. I was for a time collecting police cars myself the ones made by roadchamps I have or 150 of the things and no where to use them there too big for my HO layout my son can have them when he is older.

our club layout has an accident scene in the country, with police and ambulance etc; and in another "downtown" area the community theatre is burning up - active smoke through the building's broken windows and roof, and firefighters everywhere, water hoses and the fire truck

working in corrections MY layout will eventually have a courthouse, jail, police station, convicts, bank and train robbery, purse snatch, grafitti ...

Yes I'm a firefighter and NREMT-Intermediate.
Yes I have a fire/Ems stations on my lay out with fire EMS and PD
I used Kato's Industral Building and made it into a hospital.

I have a post on hear as to useing your layout for tabal top drills.

I from time to time hit a car at 1 of my crossings and move the PD, fire and EMS units
to the crossing 1 of these days I may have the guys from the fire/EMS dept over and do a drill with my layout I think it would be fun EX if I did the drill near the school on my lay out there are 2 crossings next to the school so lets say a gas truck is hit by a train
at 1 of those crossings the wind is blowing towards the school and it's 11:00 AM on a
wednessday so you see this could be a long drill what other units will I need to call
Maybe from the next town on my layout will I needed to call the school bus back to get the kids moved away from the crash is there Haz-mat? Boy I'm haveing fun just typing this to you all.

Volly, 2 years now, red carded for wildland (Colorado Rockies, we can be busy in dry years) Qualified for Entry (Already have made initial interior attack on well involved structure fires...what a hoot). Don't do medicals, but we had a 4 car head on fatal MVA yesterday.....did extracation, then manned the 1 3/4 covering aas we had fuel leaks.I have some slot car Firetrucks....does that count ? 3 different custom trucks that run on old Aurora Thunderjet chassis.

I've been a firefighter and paramedic for 25 years, both paid and volunteer.I have also served as the Fire Marshal in my old hometown for 12 of those years.

My PRR Monongahela Division will have a station in each the 2 towns on the layout. The apparatus will be ALF 700 AND 800 Series, Anniversary series Seagraves. The "patch" towns will have whatever I scrape together!

Wow, there are a lot of us into Model Railroading. I'm a part time firefighter/paramedic for a small tourist town and then volunteer on two local departments nearby. My neighbor up the road is also on both of the volunteer departments and has a large storage building dedicated to his big HO layout. We go to train shows with a third volunteer fireman, so we seldom have a lack of conversation!

Does fire and EMS influence my own layout? You bet! [:D] Each city block seems to have a fire station. I've got more 1/87 fire trucks and ambulances than I'll ever use. And I also have the required burning building to place on the layout.

When I'm working on my layout in the garage I always have my fire radio on right next to my scanner. Living on top of a small mountain means that I can pick up fire and EMS radio traffic from many miles away. It never gets boring and is more interesting to me than playing music. It's fun to listen to the rest of the world while highballing freights through my finally completed switching yard! [:P]

I retired on 92% pention after 18 yrs on the job due to a disagreement with gravity, an icy roof and an air conditioner 20 feet below one night last winter. I was given a choice, spend my last 2 yrs driving a desk instead of a rescue engine, or get out on a medical, so I took the medical. I now spend my time raising my family and working on my layout. I haven't incorperated a fire/rescue scene into my set yet, but plan on putting one in my new lay-out.

HI to all I'm a firefighter in the Green Zone Iraq and like most I have been a FF for a very long time 25 yrs I plan to build several fire stations on my layout when I get back in country I would likr to find american ARRF equipment if any one knows? Nice rig cross racer any problems with the wheels staying on?? Stay safe to all brothers

I am not aware of any HO scale American cra***rucks. I think one of the European model railroad companies used to (or still does) make European cra***rucks.
