Cleanup at the Shop/a follow-up. (pics)

Drywall is the way to go, but I already had my benchwork and some track laid when I made up my mind to do something. I used insulation hangers to hold backed insulation between the rafters. That is the same hangers you would use to install insulation under the floor between the floor joists. They are nothing more than springed metal wire. Works good for the insulation part, but doesn't look nice like drywall. I don't look at the ceiling anyway so it doesn't matter. You might want to try it if looks aren't that important and if putting up drywall would chance a mishap with your layout.

I do try to put away all my tools after each session--at the very least, GET THEM OFF THE LAYOUT (my mantra is THE LAYOUT IS NOT A SHELF!) but sometimes things get very, very convoluted. My garage layout space also contains band equipment, power tools, workshop and gardening equipment.

I have been trying to re-arrange my garage, but it's rather difficult to do so in a place so full without taking everything outside and putting it back in. Eventually I want to put drywall on the ceiling and carpet the floor (maybe just get some industrial rubber pads instead of carpet, to prevent the inevitable "tiny detail item dropped to the floor vanishes forever in the carpet" syndrome) but that will require much work...fortunately the layout is mounted to a shelf on the wall so I won't have to take that out too!

I can tell all that I have been cleaning up after each work session and making sure that all tools are put in there proper place. It does make it a lot nicer to go back to a clean area. What really drives me to do this is that I never want to have such a major cleanup again. THAT HURT! [V]

No, I haven't traded my Engineer's hat for an apron, but my wife is starting to get ideas. [:D][:D]

That's what we need--a model-railroad layout remodeling show! Something along the lines of the various remodel shows, where a team of NMRA Master Model Railroaders come in, tune your engines, re-do your scenery and take a gauge to all your trackwork!

Hah! Believe me one is plenty. I'm still sore from it all [B)]. I used Rust-Oleum Epoxy paint kit for garage floors. The hard part is getting the concrete clean enough, but the rest is easy. It sure has a nice finish with color specks sprinkled about.[^]

There are some pretty good shots of my first mountain with the trees. Its not a well organized album (kind of a day 1 until present thing), but I use it for storing my pictures until a can setup a web site.

Dave, if you look real hard with a magnifier you can see a 15" TV in the waiting room. Did you know that ants play football? Yes Sir. Saw a pretty good ant game on that TV. Well, you shamed [:I] me into going in action to clean up my act. It took over a week [xx(], but it's done. What do you think?
