Power controls for HO, basement sized layout
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, October 9, 2004 6:44 PM
Hello to all! I am building an HO layout in my basement that will be DC. Do not want to spend the $ or time, to go DCC. Are there any power controls out there that are wireless with a hand held control? You can e-mail me at peoplepc.com or just post it here. Thanks Rod

1. unless the layout is very, very simple and you already have all the dc components you need (ie controllers, selectors, or toggle switches), dcc may very well be cheaper.

2. the wiring, thus the time, will definately be less WITH dcc.

Rod;

To answer your question, yes, they are expensive, and proprietary - or you can spend both time and money to build your own. The DCC solutions are much cheaper because of volume.

Aristocraft offers one that uses receivers that plug into the loco like a DCC decoder. It runs off of track power - DC or DCC.

Aristocraft offers another aimed at large scale that is intended to be battery powered.
