Hey Russell -- Can We Help ? ? ?

Russell ( Trainnut 484) posted this in another thread.

I am an employee in a physical rehabilitation hospital for stroke and brain injury victims here in the Kansas City area. This below is the best reason why I work there.

A patient, whom I cannot reveal his name due to patient rights under HIPPAA regulations, is a fellow model railroader and suffered an injury a long time ago, and was confined to a wheelchair. He has been undergoing therapy for much of that time.

Today he WALKED FOR THE FIRST TIME with help from his walker into the hospital for routine therapy. All the staff gave him high praise and cheer. He told me he'll soon be able to work on a layout with his grandson.

He's getting closer to living life before the injury. That is his goal.
end of quote

OK, we all know that medical bills are out of this world. We all know that money for modeling is probally out of the question. Actually money for many things is probally out of the question in this man's life.

I don't know about you all but I would like to help if I may. I have a Proto E8/9 in Frisco livery that I would donate. I can also include several Frisco passenger cars. These items are new and never even been on a layout, still in the original box. (Frisco was a player in Kansas City until it was merged into BN.)

If Russell is willing to "receive" these items for the man I would be glad to donate them. I am not wealthy by any means but I believe this to be a worthy cause.

If anyone else should be willing to donate any items you may include them in this thread.

May God bless all who would like to help in any way whatsoever.

Jim,

Thank you for your very generous offer. I don't know what his financial condition is or what kind of medical coverage he has (Medicare, Insurance, etc). When I see him next week, I'll ask him what his modeling plans are since he hasn't made a set decision on what scale or layout size, but he likes Santa Fe and possibly KCS.

Take care,

Russell
