Local Model Railroader Sellios & Rod Stewart in Local Newspaper Today
Posted by NellsChoo on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 11:13 AM

Today's Boston Globe newspaper has a large color photo of Massachusetts model railroader George Sellios with Rod Stewart. They are looking at George's HO Franklin & South Manchester RR.

I think this is pretty nifty! I don't think I can share the online link with you all, as a lot of the paper's website is subscriber-only now. But just in case:

http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/names/2013/12/10/rod-stewart-checks-out-model-train-peabody/96wCszcTKzkMvWjlVwNjII/story.html

Here is the text:

Among model train enthusiasts, George Sellios’s Franklin and South Manchester Railroad is renowned for its intricacy. Hobbyists from far and wide come to Main Street in Peabody to see Sellios’s miniature railroad, which measures 42 feet long and 25 feet wide. The other day, none other than Rod Stewart stopped by (he was in Boston to perform at TD Garden). The singer, who has an enormous model train at his house in LA, told Sellios he’s wanted to see his setup for a long time and this was his first chance. “He was super. He came running in here and gave me the biggest hug,” Sellios told us. “I got so excited I kissed him. I hope he didn’t any wrong ideas.” He said Stewart spent an hour admiring the model railroad and seemed genuinely impressed. He “said he’s going to rip his up after seeing this one,” Sellios said. Has he played host to any other VIPs? “Frank Sinatra was supposed to come, but he died, so that didn’t work out.”

Not a trace of pink foam anywhere. I am so not worthy.Laugh

Rod's wonderful layout clearly shows the George Sellios influence.  I suspect this was indeed an exciting meeting for both of them.

Imagine the women of America glaring at their husbands and saying "If only you would build a model railroad then maybe Rod Stewart would visit our house!"

"Yes dear."

Ah, well Georges is mostly city scenes so not much need for pink foam... but hey, you never know what lies below the surface!  What matters is that it looks great.  Sounds like Rod got some good ideas and is going to do what all good model railroaders do, rip things out and do over!

Cheers, Jim

Great story! Its very cool that Rod is just like any of us model railroaders, who appreciate a well done, detailed layout.

Rod needs to retire from the singing gigs, so he can get more time to work on his layout.

Hmm, he's going to be playing near here soon, wonder if he'd like to come see my pink prairie that I'm in the middle of tearing down....

hmm, Music oh, the rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum...Music Because Music"every picture tells a story..."Music

Gee, ROD is looking good at being "older" now. May he be Music"forever young.."Music

I am so not worthy, period!

I used blue foam so I am safe! I'll just say "that's the water, can'tcha tell?"!!!

I wonder if he'd care to see mine all torn down to track for "extending" that may never come true in my small space! Probably NOT.

I'd like to see their layouts in person! But that, too, will never happen!

Just think, George's wife saying "honey, it's some guy on the phone  named Rod Stewart, shall i tell him you are out?"

And George saying Music"Wake up Maggie, I think I got somethin' to say to you..."Music

What do you know, MusicSome guys have all the luck...Music

Stop me before I sing his entire repertoir!

If Rod saw my layout, he would decide to keep his layout - - - LOL.

What's not to like on GS's layout?   But what I like most is that massive building, it seems to measure 24 windows across and 12 stories high!
