Lettering and such

I wonder :

Is there a lack of lettering that is so severe that I cannot find lettraset type lettering hardly anywhere now .I used it extensively not that many years back , especially the gold type used on model railroads  .Is another well known firm like Woodland Scenics the only source now ? I need lots of it , in Missouri Pacific and other road styles .That and good Pullman Green paint like Polly S used to make .

Dry transfer lettering never really caught on in the modeling community.  Most modelers find waterslide decales easier to use.

The wide variety available was due to their popularity with Architects, Engineers and Graphic Designers. They have been replaced by computer graphics.

The general dry transfer makers have moved on to other products curtailing or severely reducing their dry transfer lines, or have gone out of business.

While there are a few small companys still supplying transfers for model railroadings, their lines are small and usually offer sets for specific models.

Your best chance of finding what you need is to check waterslide decals, like Microscale.

Another possibly is to make your own. There are materials available for making dry transfers using home computer/printers.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Model Train Detailer,

I don't know if you do want to try your hand at making your own, but should you like to read about it, this link describes a lot about it:

Edit: For the paint color. Try looking at Micro-Lux, It's a new paint, with old railroad colors.

Clover House used to be one such dry transfer supplier. I understand the business was sold a short while back but I have used their products and they are good quality,

CDS lettering is another source. I believe they are no longer producing dry transfers but there may be stock available.

There may be others but these two I have had dealings with in the past.

I much prefer dry transfers but, as you are finding out, they are not favored over water decals...

Hope you have some luck, Ed
