Earlier I said that spell check was working with my Internet Explorer. I just did an answer to a post using "reply" and it doesn't work. It still works if I use the "quick reply". Seems a little odd that it works with one and not the other. "Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of computers?" Have fun (anyway), Richard

Did all that and it was already checked. Go figure. Spell check works on all the other forums but this one since the new update.

Yeah. I have the same problem. I just copy and paste my reply to the PM reply box or to the reply box on my own forum and the spell check does it's thing. Then it's a simple copy and past back here and click the 'Submit Your Reply' button.

f you're using Firefox and it doesn't have spell check you haven't enabled it. Click 'Tools' in the menu bar, scroll down, click 'Options', click 'Advanced', click the 'General' tab, go down and look at the box next to 'Check My Spelling As I Type'. If it isn't checked then check it now. Click OK.

Did all that and it was already checked. Go figure. Spell check works on all the other forums but this one since the new update.

The forums don't work for me in IE, so I'm using Chrome.  But spell check isn't working in Chrome, and some of the other MR website features aren't working Chrome either.  So I have to use both browswers and switch back and forth between them.  Kind of frustrating.

Having been involved with several major IT projects over the years, there is one lesson above all others -- don't let IT folks manage an IT project.  Sounds counter intuitive, but they tend to get so focused on all the things they can do, they forget about the users needs and what they should do.  Or to put it in more everyday terms, sometimes you want a full chef prepared gourmet dinner ... and sometimes all you want is a ham sandwich.

I have all that and I still don't get SPELL CHECKED. Go figure.

Yeah, my spell check isn't working here either. It works everywhere else. I'll just continue to use the PM reply box as the spell check works there. Friends of mine tell me their spell check doesn't work either.  One uses Chrome. He says the spell check doesn't work at all. The other has IE8. The spell check doesn't work unless he highlights the word(s, selects the proper ones from a list and clicks 'change' on his IESpell menu. The automatic spell check doesn't work at all.

  Cowman.

What browser are you using? Firefox does not have the spell check.

So does Chrome.

Pete, Using Internet Explorer, not sure of the version. Do have trouble with words running off the page to the right. Good luck, Richard

Spell check works in the PM reply box.  I just copy and paste my text there, make the corrections then copy and paste it in my reply.

Spell check here use to work for me. Not anymore.

I use FF 25.0.1 with spell check option selected. The FF spell check works elsewhere for different sites.

I just copy and paste into a Office document. Not a big deal.

As long as I have been in Trains.com forums, this is the worse upgrade ever but it is free. Go with the flow.

Spell Check is a function of the Firefox Browser. Since it does not wrok here, it is obvious that this box is isolated from the browser and is within flash or other sort of code. In other words, this box, although it appears to be in your browser is is actually operating outside of it. I do not know if I like this kind of coding.

I'm not automatically getting any spell check either.  But then the previous spell check didn't seem to work for me.  I always got an error message when I tried to use it.

Not to worry; as my alter ego, 'Grammar Granny', I'll happily be making suggestions to all posters I come across regarding spelling & syntax; it's my response to the 'rivet counters' that take issue with my fantasy consists and seem to have forgotten Rule #1....

I must be doing something wrong. If I misspell a word, either the misspelling is corrected or a red line appears under the word. In this post I purposely misspelled "wrong" got the red line. Missed putting in the second s in misspell in the first line and "whatever" added the second s. Works for me. Good luck, Richard

The spell checker is amongst the missing. I just type up my reply, copy and paste it into the PM reply box or the reply box of the Classic Toy Trains forums (both have spell checkers) and correct any errors there, copy the text, get out of that reply box and paste the corrected text back here. Hopefully the spell check will be fixed soon.

Where's the spell check?

I do have to say that this is the worst update I have seen so far. It is even worse than the Yahoo groups update which is not an update but a de- evolution of the forum. Does MR use the same company that did the AHC web site? I would rather keep the change in my pocket and not on my computer thank you!
