In my opinion, they are meaningless except as an ego boost anyway. I have been here since the beginning of this forum, post regularly when I have something WORTH WHILE to contribute, and I still only have 2 stars. There are guys who have been here only a few months and have four or five. Why. Well, in many cases they post multiple posts of meaningless dribble every day in a sheer effort to get stars by their names and look important. Again, ignore them. They mean nothing concerning a persons experience, involvement on this forum, or the quality/relevance of their contributions.

Just as Ron says, it's just a childish ego-booster MR threw in here...God knows why. Remember getting gold stars from the teacher in first grade when you learned to spell cat, dog, ***, and Jane? I'd say that those gold stars from back then were probably of greater significance then those to be found there.

Not THIS again please. There is no choice in the matter, the system spits them out based on those criteria. Love them or hate them, we have no control over them. They are a part of the software that Kalmbach has chosen to use for their forums.

Some people consider them a game, a goal to strive for, while others ignore them completely. Which ever way you feel about them, there is no point discussing it. We have done that too many times in the past, and it only causes trouble.

Personally, I have never been one to post simply for the sake of stars. I post because I have something to say, be it insight, humor, or just an interest in the topic. Stars just happen because a person is involved in the forum.

Polizi asked an innocent question, at least I think it was innocent. I replied with a very matter of fact answer, because I believe every question is entitled to an answer. I had hoped that that would end this topic, but now there seems to bee some desire to discuss it further. Please guys, let's not!

I believe you wrote this recently and I don't mean to be mean spirited about the following comments but......

I for one post heavily, apparently too heavily for some. However, for the most part I do it because I enjoy talking with others. Elliot is right not this again please.

For the record I'm not here for my ego. I'm here because I enjoy it!! and have gotten more out of the hobby in the last year I've bee here then in all the previous years. Believe it or not it keep's me motivated and, if you'll pardon the pun, "On track".

Be advised, That's My Warning Shot!!!

BTW it took me a full morning to install a single switch machine and it's still not finished.

I like stars. I do try to make my posts worth reading or encouraging, but I do like earning stars. I am working towards my 3rd star. I don't understand what is the matter with stars .

Not your fault. It was an inoceent question, which has been asked before. I saw it posted last night and was hoping it would go away peacefully. Not so unfortunately as it has been said before there is all kinds here, the shy and quiet kind, the flamers, the two footers, the fence sitters and of course the pot stirrers.

Hopefully this will die quickly.

It very simple...

Stars are simply a measure of how much time do you waste on your computer dredging forums when you could be doing more productive work like laying track or running trains[:D]

How else do you think I got 5 stars?[(-D][D)][:-,]

   Have fun with your trains

Somebody suggeseted a while back that we replace the stars with trains. You could start with a locomotive, then as you get more posts, get more cars behind it. Of course, everyone would want a full train, so we'd have a lot of dribble drabble. **sigh** Thus life continuse.

I believe the question asked here was concerning the meaning of stars, and I simply gave my opinion that stars actually MEAN very little. I did NOT call any names or make person accusations, unlike the post quoted above. Nor did I make any blanket statements as though they applied to ALL members with four or more stars. If you think, however, that there are no people on this forum who post meaninglessly simply to improve their star count you are quite naive my friend. I do not refute their right to make such posts for whatever reasons they may. I simply stated that one should not make judgments, positive or negative, about a member based on the number/color of stars that follow his/her handle.

People take things on this forum WAY too personally. Thus I repeat my own words which you quoted above . . . lighten up.[8D][8D][8D]

What I find funny is that the ORIGINAL QUESTION was answered in the very first response.....
Polizi simply asked how one recieved stars.....Not everyones opinion of the stars. Just my
opinion. [;)] Dave

One post closer to another star....

MY [2c]
Let's see if we can finally let this thing die as it should have many posts ago.

Dave makes a very good point about the question being answered in the very first post, without any personal opinion just fact.

I find this humorous, that everyone is lamenting how this should die quietly, everybody's too "good" for stars, of course, but we all felt the need to post this opinion about the matter....course I'm not any better so don't send the posse out after me.

Ok Boys and Girls let not argue! I have seen many stars under my layout but when your
6' 6" it happen all the time. some of you guys make me laugh[:D]. I really wish I could retract the question because I do not want to stir the pot, I only whated to know what they were so if you are reading this and feel like you need to post a reply make it off the wall or something other then the answer to the question. the original question must now die.(Insert moment of silence here). So with that I say party on!!

As someone pointed out, the number of stars or posts do not indicate a persons expertise.
True! But, it can show how dumb you are, like [D)] me!! [D)] [?][?] [banghead]

STARS!
What is wrong with Stars? Humans have always had an interest in Stars. We even had a war in the Stars and then we found a gate to the Stars. In my younger days, you could catch a falling star and put it in your pocket when the Stars fell on Alabama. Stars ........Stars.......Stars......I wish I had more Stars. [sigh]

Gads! I got to get a life!
