If anybody operates, they must have waybills on their trains (usually). What do they look like and what all cars do you put on them?

I'd wager that most people use the pre-printed system from Old Line Graphics that Micro-Mark sells. (www.micro-mark.com Item# 82916)

There are versions posted on the internet too. They are pretty standard as to form and info included. Mine are 4 stage waybills, each with shipper and location, receiver and location, routing information, and comodity. They fit into pocket style car cards with the roadname, car number, and return when empty info. As to what cars get them, all cars get them and they govern every movement of every car.

Has anybody tried doing a computer version that looks almost prototypical of the Class 1 work orders?

hello, in reply to your question,

I am under the assumption that a way bill gives u clearance to run another train that was not scheduled correct? if so, i am currently in a grapic arts class in which were learining how to use a glue bonder/and an industrial paper cutter, so considering its my layout/ my town, i figured i could my all my running session slips to my own creativity, my way bill includes,

New Scheduled run: Engine# Departure arrival

i will then add one of my Stuart ville Freight/departure/ arrival slips. along with my stuartville freight chart, which i created which would include all/ any freight/ passenger cars departing/ there type/ number, loader or not/ and their destination, i feel that since this isMY RAILROAD, i can make up my own running slips and dont have to meet any requirements, remember feel free to do your own work, it doesnt have to be protypical and it sure does add ur own personal touch to each running session you run!

hope this helps

N scale boy : No. A waybill is, in the most general sense, a "ticket" for a rail car. It tells who shipped the car, where its going, whats in it and how much and what charges there are for the move.

What you are describing is a 'freelance" version of a train order or track warrant, things that give a train authority to occupy the main track. Completely different things.

To answer the original question, I made a Microsoft Access 97 application that is a database that keeps all your inventory, generates car cards and waybills for freight movement (similar to Old Line Graphics or MicroMark), generates engine cards and several types of other waybills, plus inventory reports. Its available as on the Car Cards Yahoo Group (one advantage over this forum, you can post files). You must have Access 97 (or newer) to run it though, it won't run just by itself.
