Does anyone know what happened to AWNUTS? (Always Whimsical, Not Usually To Scale)

I've heard that they've gone out of business, but I could be wrong.

A.W.N.U.T.S. is/was a G-gauge magazine that promoted a more whimsical look at the hobby. Things that would make a prototype modeler cringe were the norm, but they were always about fun.

For example, they used to have a "club car" that would come out once a year. The one I remember was an "Observation Car". Going by that, you might think it was a passenger car. Not so. It was a G-gauge flat car with a domed observatory with rotating telescope in it.

I only saw thier website a number of times but it was dedicated to train models, no specific scale, of the odd and whimisical. One of my favorites was the 'obvervation' car that was a flatcar with a small observatory, complete with telescope, mounted on the car. It is still listed on some train related list, but the link no longer works. So I don't know if they moved or just went out of existence.

The rails are gone and the roadbed has been turned into a bridal trail.

It was great. Unfortunately, I didn't really notice it until it was gone.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

DSchmitt -
How far does a bride have to walk down a bridal trail to make it official? Sounds like a modeling topic for A.W.N.U.T.S.

Yup, went under some time last year. I guess they didnt have enough readership to cover the costs, I dont know why they didnt just switch to an Internet website. Real shame too, it was a hoot!

   Have fun with your trains

If it has an X in it, it sucks! And yes, I just had my modeler's license renewed last week!
