Gidday, once again a balmy Friday evening, a great end to the week, though I do have w**k tomorrow, Shouldn't complain as it would be a case of biting the hand that feeds me, or at least lets me indulge in this Great Hobby.
Before I joined the forum I obtained this OO Jouef depressed centre car which had seen better days and was being thrown out. i measured it up and found that It was within the US railroad loading gauge so accordingly kit bashed it thus......
Having joined this forum and seen, amongst others, the work of doctorwayne, my first attempt started to niggle me as being sub par, so have just finished a rehash, with a free lanced nod to the PRR F29 cars, and without the Buckeye trucks.
Not up there with the masters, but I had fun and am pretty satisfied .
Looking forward to the really Good Stuff,
Have a Great One Folks.
Cheers, the Bear.

Here's a Railbox I just finished up.
I added grime, rust, faded the logo, etc..
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Happy Friday All

Good morning everyone, Bear, the car looks good! Finished up some cars last night!
Athearn Chemical Tank Car, painted Scalecoat Ii White and lettered with Herald King Decals. Branchline GARX RBL where I removed the Plug Door and Replaced with an 8' Slider per an article in Railroad Model Journal. Painted with a mixture of Reading Green and Black Floquil Paint and lettered with the decals included in the Magazine with the article. As noted the car was leased to a number of railroads including the GM&O, CB&Q, WAB, PRR, B&O and NYC. Mine is lettered for the PRR and I did a Wabash car a few years ago. The GAEX cars were a joint venture between General American and Evans fo supply loader equiped cars for damage free shipping back in the 1950's, which is the reason for the XME designation on the cars. Intermountain Railway PS 4750CF Covered Hopper kit, assembled and then painted with Scalecoat II White and Black paints. Lettered with Herald King Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick J. No Rust on my Railroad, sent from my Etch-A-Sketch Mark I

Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
Got some projects done this week myself. Tsunami installs in B&O Geeps for 1 customer, Custom paint on 3 engines for another, and even managed to squeeze this one out for myself!

NCE über alles!
Great work so far, guys.
Bear,
Nice flat! I love those things...

Lots of work in prep for our NMRA meeting and op session here a week from Sat. Here's a pic of my new acrylic guard alongside the Durango yard.
I wrote it up in a thread on Layout Fixtures and Furniture:

The Cascade Branch is getting in shape to serve as the World's Fanciest Staging track, given it's nothing by a single pair of rails once you're past Purgatory.
I'll make a long overdue update to my Cascade Branch extension with lots more pics a little later this weekend:

Great work everyone.
I just got a new Walthers P2K D&RGW GP60. I completed the weathering last night.

Well the most recent work on the layout isn't the kind that's exciting or worth photographing. So here is an oldie from me.

"All of the world's problems are the result of the difference between how we think and how the world works."
I have several undec MDC ore cars sitting around, so I decided to join a couple together to make a longer hopper. Kadee trucks, couplers and brake wheel were used along with .012 brass cut levers. I lettered it for the Fort Worth & Rio Grande.
Chuck - Modeling in HO scale and anything narrow gauge
Nice hopper, Chuck.
With a different set of outlet gates, it would make a pretty good ballast hopper for MOW service. With a roof, a unique covered hopper. I'll have to keep that in mind for some "special" loads I may have to move.
That Canton RWY switcher looks great. Are the graphics/decal available commercially or did you make them yourself?

Athearn did a run of them for the Canton, all dummies. For stockholders, customers and employees. I powered the unit, painted the cab wall, roof, side sills and handrails. However somehow during assembly I picked up the cab and had thinner on my finger! Totally ruined 1 side of the cab. So I put the other side on a flatbed scanner covered by a black cloth, scanned it at 300 dpi, and printed it on decal paper. All better now!

Thanks, Mike. I like the covered hopper idea. I might have to try that sometime!

Great pictures everyone!
All your weathering really impresses me. I haven't got the courage yet to start doing it but don't worry, I'll get there.
Bear - For what it's worth I'd say your 'up there' with the flat! I'll be interested to see it 'in used condition'.
I have to warn you all - I finally bit the bullet and bought a new camera. It is a Sony Cybershot with 50X built in zoom. One step down from an SLR but half the price. Took it to Alberta in early September and I am quite pleased with the results as far as landscapes go, and the zoom is really neat. This was taken at about 15 ft. No, it's not a model railway picture. The moderators can decide if it is appropriate:
So, like I said, be prepared for an onslaught of pictures!
(I have played with it a little bit on model railroading shots but nothing worth showing has come up - yet!)
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
I am never disappointed by the posts to this thread, it really is Good Stuff.
Thanks for the kind words regarding my rehashed kit bash.
hon30critterAll your weathering really impresses me. I haven't got the courage yet to start doing it
I'm in your boat Dave, though I do use the excuse that I've got to make the decals for my railroad.
Mike, yes those are two nice examples, I have in mind a "load" to build for my car, but will have to try to contain myself as I really need to concentrate on my car ferry project.
Chuck, hopper. Am I correct in presuming that its free lanced ??
Have a Great Rest of The Weekend.
As promised, I am going to post some railroad shots taken with my new camera. Just to make things complicated, I thought I would start with a video of my P2K SW900 which I have just installed a Loksound Select decoder in:
?action=view¤t=20131006213157zps004b3487.mp4
If this works it is because I stayed up all last night (to 8:30am!) trying to figure out how to post a video. Yes, I'm a bit slow with this stuff! And, yes, I have to find my tripod! And no, I haven't tuned the decoder yet. I want to reduce the sound volume and delay the start until the engine develops a few RPM.
EDIT: My gosh!!! The video works! It isn't nearly as clear on the thread as it is on the computer. I'll have to figure that out.
SECOND EDIT: I adjusted the start voltage and it now creeps at less than half the speed shown in the video, and the engine revs before it moves. The volume is down to acceptable levels too. Took about five minutes to look up the manual online, find the appropriate CVs, make the changes, test them and then record them. Gotta love Loksound! My one and only Tsunami took several days to figure out how to do the same thing, plus a lot of help from Crandell and others. For now, its Loksound for me, at least until folks have had a chance to work with the TCS sound decoders. If they are anywhere near as easy to work with as Loksound I will definitely buy North American.
"JaBear" Chuck, hopper. Am I correct in presuming that its free lanced ??
Bear, yes, you are correct. There was a real Fort Worth & Rio Grande that lasted until the late 30's. It was owned for almost its entire life by the Frisco, until it was bought by the Santa Fe who immediately made it a part of the GC&SF. It ran southwest from Fort Worth to...not real sure where it ended. The line is still mostly in existence today, belonging to the Fort Worth & Western.
I have long wanted to model a portion of this, but a few other lines keep nagging at me!
