I have used the Axion and Spring Mills Depot boxes. They work fine with older 'Blue Box' freight cars, but the foam snags the grab irons/detail parts on my newer freight cars. I now use the Proto Power West/A-Line boxes - the engines/cars ride on their wheels - Much safer transport with a box full of Kato/Genesis engines & rolling stock.

try these http://www.springmillsdepot.com/boxes.htm, I've been pleased with them.
I have a bunch of off-layout storage in two sets of 4' long drawers. Still, it doesn't all fit. I put up some fluorescent lights and repurposed the boxes. At 4' long, they are a bit ungainly, but work fine for on top of my roll-around storage drawers. I cut some long skinny pieces of 1/4" luaun and hot glued it in for dividers. Can't take them anywhere, but the price was right and fit my needs.

I used to use boxes like the Axian ones. I switched to the ones from A-Line/Proto Power West because my rolling stock was getting damaged from layin on its side. The PPW boxes store things on their wheels. No more bent handrails or broken stirrup steps since I started using them to transport my equipment to shows.

How much do you value your trains?
Technically, any old box can be adapted to store RR equipment. {I mean a pizza box is cheap and "free", though greasy!}. I have kept the original boxes, but for easy access to "sets" of trains and freight cars, I use the Axian boxes.
The Axian boxes work very well, though not exactly a "good price" if you are looking for cheap..but even though my locos {14} are all Bachmann regular and Spectrum models {cheap to some people}, I consider the storage of my locos to be of major importance, and so the Axian boxes are worth it to me

There are a variety of storage boxes available on e-bay if you shop there:

Gidday, here's a link to a previous thread on the topic, there may be some options for you.
