O27.... dead yet?

Are any manufacturers making a decent line of locos in this scale anymore or should we just abandon ship? Any hope at all..[:(]

Lionel, MTH and several others are still making O27 equipment. The guage is far from dead.

There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.

There really is a pretty limited selection of true O27 being made these days. Most of the 3 rail O companies are focusing on scale-sized monsters and semi-scale pieces that are too large to run on O27 track and look good.

The good news, though, is that Lionel still sells a pretty good "traditional" line of rolling stock(now with die-cast trucks) for a pretty reasonable price. K-line has their Train 19 line with cars priced at $19 each(die-cast trucks), and their Keystone Classics line of boxcars piced at $10 each. Both Lionel and K-line offer a decent selection of engines for a moderate price. Both off a pretty full line of track in O27 profile. And, best of all, there's tons of postwar and MPC era Lionel, as well as pre-postwar Marx that runs great and is cheap.

Thank guys. I was just on Lionel's site looking at the Premier line, min radius 31inches. If you can just add those 4 inches you have so much more available. I really like the size and heft of O scale, plus the sound is great, but oh the space it eats..

Industrail Rail http://www.industrialrail.com/ makes trains for O27. These are low price.
Enjoy

Most things rated for O31 will run on O27, but they will look awful, even by toy train standards, so I wouldn't do it.

Also, remember that you're talking diameter, and not radius. This means that a circle of O31 actually takes up less space than a circle of HO 18" radius.

I understand that industrial rail is no longer in business, however there are plenty of hobby shops out there that still have a good stock of them for sale. Someone else may have bought the tooling, and will soon start producing it under another name.

O27 will be here for quite a while. Lionel and MTH are making good money on it.

Modular railroading at its best!
If it has an X in it, it sucks! And yes, I just had my modeler's license renewed last week!
