Prodigy Advanced DCC
Posted by gtcr98 on Sunday, September 26, 2004 12:48 PM
I read the review by Tonys Train Exchange. It says that the Prodigy Advanced comes with a 2.5 amp booster with a 5 amp booster as an optional upgrade. The 2.5amp booster will run 4 locos. Since I am new to DCC, does it follow that a 5 amp booster will run 8 locos?

Possibly, depending on what other items might be drawing current, such as passenger car lighting and locomotives sitting on sidings with their headlights turned on, even if they are not actually running, which can be done with DCC. Unless you're running really old locomotives, a 5 Amp booster should be able to easily power more than 8. I have ran 9 Proto2000 GP9 engines as a single consist from a 3 Amp booster with no problems.
