I'm looking at a nice custom GP38-2 on e-bay, and the item descritpion says it has a Mashima motor. Are these good motors?

Mashima have a good name in motors. I've not got any myself though I've never read a poor report of them. Worth a bid in my opinion, so long as the work's been done well.

Yes. Same motors ALine/PPW uses in their repowering kits. Smooth, quiet and strong.

Modular railroading at its best!
If it has an X in it, it sucks! And yes, I just had my modeler's license renewed last week!
