Apologies to NP2626 and the forum for my rude response to his post. It really had nothing to do with him, and I was wrong for taking issue out on on him.
This apology was not coerced by anyone, the mods deleted my post, (as they should have) and said nothing to me about it. NP reached out to me, and he was right.
Thanks everyone
Now back to the topic.

My local hobby shop sells the stuff for $6.25 per bottle. (what paint there is left on the shelf)
There is little sympathy from me about their loss of profit in not selling enough paint. The stuff probably costs them 28 cents for the paint and 20 cents for the bottle. I am experimenting with standard alkalid thinning methods using paints from Loews ~$4.00/pint. Color me, "tired of being ripped off".
I don't need to petition for a continued presence of their hand in my pocket.

Testors is going to do what ever. If they are losing money on a product they will make a decision and make it fly. They can't call United Way for help etc. In all the years I have been in this hobby I have seen many come and go for a multitude of reasons. If they are gone then we as modelers adjust our focus and adapt and move on. Model Railroading though is still alive and strong. I will say that I feel real bad for the lose of these accurate paints. I agree.

Don't know what I will do without Floquil and Polly. I have tried others and don't like as well. Model Flex is my next choice, but doesn't do the job as nicely. At least Testors could sell to someone else.
Mark R. NP2626 And, so, from your time attempting to do what ever it is, you are attempting to do, you have ascertained exactly what Testor's position on this issue is? You certainly have the right to feel you have determined their position; but, please, let the rest of us, get our own feel for what is going on. I'll refrain from any any further comments on this topic until everyone else figures it out for themselves. Hint - read the business world websites, not the model railroad forums, it's out there in plain black and white .... Mark.

LOL, well said Mark.
You might have better luck petitioning Walther's to buy the rights....

dknelson It could be interesting to know what if any model railroad manufacturers purchase and use their paints? With both online and print reviews prepared to pretty much slam a manufacturer who offers rolling stock, particularly at today's premium prices, without proper attention to prototype specific details, one would think some of them have been relying on accurate paint colors from Testors and its affiliates. What do they propose to do for paint?

I was assembling a Walthers kit a few weeks ago and noticed in the instructions they said the paint used was Scalecoat, and they even listed the specific color. I seem to recall this with a couple of other Walthers kits, as well.
Of course, these were older kits, and as far as I know, Walthers isn't making kits anymore. But the point is they were using Scalecoat. Not sure what other kit makers are using (Accurail?), but they may also be using a commerically available product.

The petition probably won't change Testors' mind. But the way I see it, nothing ventured, nothing gained right?
My petition comment:
I have been a loyal customer since I was 7 years old. Please reconsider your decision.

I agree with you Mark. Company's are not going to lose money on a product and then continue to produce it. If you guys really want to get your point across then you need to boycott all RPM products. There are a lot of them.
I would think the entire model railroad community has already voted, with their $$$$.
If we aren't buying enough paint to make it viable to continue producing it, all the petitions in the world won't save it. If they are consolidating facilities then this petition is a year too late.

My initial "attempts" had nothing to do with them shutting the line down. My initial correspondence began a couple months ago regarding paint formulations, which ultimately lead to abandoning everything because I was eventually told the line was going to be shut down and any further advancements were now a moot point .....
I never said I determined exactly what their position is - my comment on them not caring is my opinion based on the facts I have learned.
As per your request, I'll refrain from any any further comments on this topic until everyone else figures it out for themselves. Hint - read the business world websites, not the model railroad forums, it's out there in plain black and white ....

Sometimes petitions do work with corporate enterprises -- so I do not dismiss the petition out of hand -- but in this case it sounds like a smaller physical capacity is making this perhaps not a reversable choice for Testors. A petition won't buy them a bigger building, assuming they even want one.
What none of us knows of course is whether Testors is actively shopping the line in hopes of finding a buyer. If you aren't going to make it yourself, perhaps there is still money to be squeezed from the line by selling it.

What do they propose to do for paint? It is not unprecedented for model manufacturers to also sell paints - I seem to recall years ago Model Die Casting / Roundhouse did so. Perhaps Ulrich did as well.

NP2626 Mark, how can you possibly know what the manufacturer cares about? Testors, I think you need to re-examine your decision to discontinue Floquil and Poly Scale Paints.

Testors, I think you need to re-examine your decision to discontinue Floquil and Poly Scale Paints.
Mainly because I've been going back and forth with customer service at Testors for the last two weeks. Even they were surprised at the announcement. And two of the people - as of July 17 - are out of a job because of this (not sure about the others).
They have two factories and are moving into one. The one they are closing is four times the size the one they are moving to is. Products and employees had to go. The products with the least demand / profit margin go first. I don't have any figures in front of me, but I'm sure it doesn't take an accounting degree to see the drop in sales of a very hobby specific line of product.
Schuylkill and Susquehanna Post here to say that you want Testor's to continue production of their Floquil and Polly Scale model railroading lines of paint. Post with your name and if you like, 10-20 words about you. The idea is to give Testor's an idea of the wide customer base that buys Floquil and Polly Scale paints. Post on this thread only once. The topic of this thread is a petition. If you wish to comment on this thread, PLEASE post on the comment thread. Here's the link: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/218026.aspx S&S P.S. After a few days, I will e-mail Testor's with a link to this page.
