I jusst did the same thing on a TycoWedge motor, those magnets are nice.. I did not see too much RPM difference, but did see a lower start V/A & stable start speed, but, I had added actuall ball bearings instead of the worn bronze bushings..
Now with the new stacked Neo magnets, I have better initial starts, but am still afraid of powering it (all the way) up.
But I need to put it on a track & actually test it.
I think you will be really happy with that Shay, if they have any of the mechanics, they are 'really impressive!'!!

I'm sure we will continue to come up with new ideas!!!
Keep me posted!!!  & Thanks again!!!

Chad

This will be the steam power on the diorama I plan for this winter. It is standard gauge. It was on of those never ran sat in storage engines. It is one of the Japanese PFM imports.

When I purchased the engine it would move, but very slowly.

I only oiled and lubed the engine and changed the magnets out for the rare earth magnets from Micro Mart

The engine now runs smooth, super slow speed, good top speed. It is a heavy litlle unit. A bit noisy but acceptable. Hard to believe it is the same engine.

Don,
Thanks for the very kind compliments!!!
I have been waiting for a nice small to mid sized HOn3 Climax & a Heistler for a long long time.
That PSC Shay is standard gauge & I chose not to convert to an 'n gauge'.
It is so nice as it is, it must be left this way.
It does have the Torque tip issue, or the '5 Point Leaner' where it will bobble longitudanly (sp), but otherwise 100%...

I really like the rollers for a couple reasons;
In DC I can show all the Lighing I have added to DC diesels.
On steam, I can actually observe & get mesmorized by the workings of the machine.
Maintenance is just incredibly convient this way.

Plase keep us updated with your diorama & ideas!!

Thanks!

Don,

They are great tools & you got one of the nice ones too!
For me that is on the list.
I relly Enjoy the idea of an intricate model showing off it's 'Mechamicalness' on a dio, Great idea!!

Here is my PSC HO Shay on a lesser set of individual rollers.

Chad, that is one great little Shay. The mechanics of it are the best detail I have seen, other than a 1:1 model.

Having obtained my roller set I have tackled my my deferred maintenance program and am just finishing oiling and lubing my steam roster.

On the web site they show display stands made for their roller set, Anyone with a couple of power tools can make their own.

I just sent for another set to use on a diorama I plan to build this winter. I had thought of a Shay or Climax, after seeing your video, a Shay it is.

I should have mentioned that as you can see the engine and tender just fits on the longer stirrup,

You push the engine out towards where the saddles and other stirrupts have been placed,

First fit the pilot truck onto a pair of stirrups and then slide that unit until the first driver fits into into a saddle unit, then slide again unit the second driver fits, etc. Gets easy after a couple of tries..

This makes setting the locomotive up quite easy just sliding all of  the units along the track that the entire setup sits on.

Frank

I certainly agree with you and would thank the OP who brought them to my attention

They are very well priced, and highly engineered in comparison to the others that I saw.

After visiting the site and seeing the portion dealing with displays I know that I will have to buy at least another set and build a diorama.  Would be great to have one of my steamers actually running on the display. A small logging scene with a Shay or Climax would be interesting.

HO Rollers and Stand - Must Have's

There was a posting, I think it was on this board, from someone recommending this set of rollers and stand. I took a look and you can see I bought one.

I have looked at these before, but the rollers were usually too small and I was not sure how well they would stay in place. This unit is quite a bit larger than the Micro Mart and Bachmann sets that I have seen.

Take a look at their site, they are very reasonable in their price as well, a full set is substantially less than the others.
