Gary, your new locos look like they should pull well (from appearance only). Have you checked out how well they pull yet?

the A's got quite a heft to it, should be able to pull a bit. I still want to mount the shells onto newer Life like loco mechanisms, the only thing I need to figure out is how to fill that gap in the pilot, and where to put the couplers.

Jeff, are you re-doing that building front behind the second loco?

I don't have any plans to.

Afternoon, Zoe - how about a BLT & a RBF, please? I'll cover my eats & drink, so Galaxy will be able to afford some Z scale freight cars. Thank you. Dinner

Ken, was your day a lot like those photos you put up with your post? Just wonderin'... One of THOSE days, between w**k and playing 'defense' with the wife... Sigh

Ulrich, your Dad looks like he had a little mischief in his eyes, even back then. He looks almost like me back about that age (but not in that same year, of course...). Thinking of you and your brother today as you say goodbye to your father. AngelAngel [Edit]: Good to hear that you and your brother were able to pay your respects and for all of you to be at peace.

Galaxy, you may want to count how many posts are on a page, before posting your greeting. I don't recall how many fit on a page before it rolls over, but I think there is some magic number (other than yours, which has seemed to be coming up a wee bit toooo regularly lately). Oops (Not to stir things up.. but any word from YOH's other job interview?)

Sorry about the mixup, JaBear - from the place(s) I looked up, they said something about ANZAC's first celebration of it happening a couple/few years after the actual battle. My bad. Oops Did I understand you correctly, that they will have a celebration at Gallipoli? I was thinking you were talking about your local area celebrations. (Hey, that's some heavy-duty steamers there!)

Whooooosssshhh!! - Was that Barry? I couldn't tell! Whistling

Mr. Beasley, that nightmare was in your sleep (and not when you were still awake too late at night), right? Surprise Frightening!

Oh, darn, Karl - here I thought I had some plans for Friday, but since you've already laid claim to THAT day, I guess I'll stay in bed...Smile, Wink & Grin

Todd, it sounds like you attended one of those wine-tasteroo things. The foundation that helps our agency get funds (for computers and other schtuff) has one of those annual wine-tastering things. I usually pass on attending. Besides, since I drive myself everywhere, I wouldn't be able to drive home for a bit after it was all done (not without having to watch over both my shoulders for the police, that is...). So I've missed out on those joys that you had last night. Oh, durn! Whistling Oh, and glad they didn't have one of those jackets in your size. I'm hard to fit, too... Wink

Gary, your new locos look like they should pull well (from appearance only). Have you checked out how well they pull yet?

Jeff, while both of those locos look good, I have no clue about what's off on them (past my RR's time period). And, are you re-doing that building front behind the second loco?

I've had an idea bouncing around in my head off-and-on the past few weeks, about building a 3' X 3' corner section for my turntable & engine facilities. But since how it connects to the rest of the layout is still awaiting an actual spare bedroom to build it in. Of course, I could get back to wiring the existing layout sections, but for THAT, I should pull everything off the top of the layout (and put all the rolling stock in boxes) and move stuff out from under the layout so I can get to the feeder wires, and... Hmm,... why am I feeling like taking a nap, after just thinking about it?

I'll sit and think at the window booth a while...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

I've been busy working on a couple of locos today.

The first is a GP40. It's all Bachmann, body, frame, motor, everything. Well not quite. The couplers are Kadee. However there is something slightly amiss. Can anyone spot it? Better put your sharp peepers on.

The other is this GP38. Bachmann and Atlas. The coupler pockets are a bit high so I have some Kadee 142's coming. I could have cut out the middle of the pilot, put in a shim and lowered the coupler taht way but I really didn't feel like doing that. Must be getting old.

Good Evening!

We had a quiet farewell to Dad. I know he is in a better place, united with his parents and sisters.

I am at peace now.

Jake, how's your scholarship application(s) coming along? Or did you already send them along to the college(s)?

Just waiting on reference letters. Once they get in the applications will be sent out.

Good afternoon.

Headache right now, so I'm not going to do much aside from homework. Hope it clears up.

Laugh Keep getting the top Galaxy and you won't have any money for those Z scale trains you were looking at! I'll be a gentlemen and pick up the Tab for Mr.Galaxy, here's my card miss. Also say hello to the two newest units in my fleet!  I think I'll replace their frames with the newer life like frame(like the ones in the GN units on the other side of the SP&S ones). the B is a dummy, the horn on the A is missing, and it was a little hesitant at first. now to procure that pair of alco C424/425's that are wearing Conrail blue so I can repaint 'em!

Well

MOH won't know anything one way or the other for about 6 weeks. they will do a thorough exhaustive background check including interviewing neighbors and family, etc, apparently. No wonder they don't get people for the jobs there....its like working for the gove't or something! Not that MOH has anything to hide, but really? interview neighbors family and friends? Also it was  a double interview...with another person interviewing also..who was a stranger to MOH....MOH could not "shine" with the other person there too.

Dunno,

I told MOH to go back to the grocery store and seek there again....maybe next week the A. M> can get MOh on the schedule..having "time to do so"...

well

BN/SP&S Gary - you tease! Laugh The photo you posted looks good - is that in process (or like with some of our projects, it's waiting for parts to arrive...)?

Big Smile she's a 95% finished model, wearing the BN scheme since last year. One of my favorite locomotives to be honest. I think I'll keep it like it is. I have a ton of BLMA parts but I can't bring myself to ruin a good loco like this by accidently misdrilling a spot for a part.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe. I'll have a cup of Seneca Lake Dark Rsost coffee and a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts you have over there, please.

Today the weather is supposed to be partly.  Partly what I don't know.  Sun comes out, sun goes behind a cloud, sun comes out, sun goes behind a larger cloud...  You all know the routine.  I'll be reading the Electric meter this afternoon so I will know then whether I made more electric than I used this month or not.  Should be close.

Last night I came home to both kitties gagging and leaving piles around for me.  Didn't realize the big surprise until I went to bed at midnight!  Huge pile of regurgitated kittie food on the bed!  So, bed got stripped, sheets washed (still in the washer down cellar), clean sheets put on bed, found something to use instead of the soaked comforter, and got to bed by 1:15AM.  Not a happy camper.  They both are fine at the moment but will be getting some hairball meds soon.  This morning I brushed a huge amount of hair off Manét.  He has a very thick undercoat and I think is the source of the problem...

Galaxy, hoping your OH does well at the interview this morning!

Ulrich, nice photo.  You look like a very nice young man in it.  What happened?Whistling  (just kidding)  Thinking about your mom and the whole family predicament.  Hope you get some finality soon.

Yep, spring appears to be trying to come to the Finger Lakes.  right now it is only 45°F, but the high will be....  just 55°F.  That said, the buds are coming out on the trees, the grass is busy growing (and I never, ever fertilize a lawn.... NEVER!) and some early flowers and shrubs are in blossom.

Best get myself moving as I still have a lot of things to do before I will be ready to leave for the Convention tomorrow.

Well

Did not sleep well last night. Was up perusing Z scale stuff for when we have some money!

MOH should be firmly in interview mode right about now.

MOH says will sell self very well today. {i sure hope so!} MOH is usually good at selling ice cubes to Eskimos and Equator people {where the ice will melt quickly}. SO here's hoping!

SO say prayers please!

I am busy with usual household chores...took some clothes that either don't fit me anymore or I won't wear out to be bagged for Salvation Army. Even if they don't use the clothing, they recycle the stuff they don't use, you know! NOW- IF I could get MOH to DO THE SAME, I'd be happy!!!!! MOH NEEDS TO PURGE CLOTHES!!!

Got laundry going now will tackle dishes next. Then vaccuuming.

Tomorrow we tackle the fornt porch..that is FIND it..no wait maybe Sunday we do that..then we can curbside anything we don't want, and that should be half what is there!

Beauteous weather the next few days! Spring like...cool warm sunny days! LIKE to see it!

Will see what STeamtown is up to maybe go town there.

well

I'm off....{one bubble to the left, but who looks}

 Morning All,

Currently 39 with an expected high of 74 under plesant skies. Weather guessers sure have a weird way of explaining things.

Early shift today and Skype with my son tonight, so may get a little layout w**k done this evening.

I got some yard w**k done yesterday, and all the other things I need to get done, including making some sauce and spaghetti. Had some last night, and probably again tonight, then freeze a few meals from what is left.

Finished sanding the door openings on the engine house and gluing the walls and the floor together. Tonight I hope to fit the tracks for it. Paint should arrive from Walthers by Monday, so I will paint it maybe Wednesday.

Ulrich - My dad passed away in 1991, my mom in 2005, and as you know my wife last November. I still miss them all terribly. It will get easier, but never EASY. Special prayers for you and Petra.

Prayers to all others in need.

My Mom moved to an upscale assisted-living place after she retired.  She bought her unit, which was the bottom floor of a two-story house on a slab, two bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, no basement.  But, then again, she didn't have a layout.  She almost always cooked her own food, but there was a dining center, along with pool and a golf course.  Most of the people rode golf carts rather than cars around the facilities.

It was more like a country club than an assisted-living place, really.  She and I were both fans of "The Prisoner," so we often called it The Village.

The house she left was in a suburb of New York.  To be honest, I'd rather live in her retirement community than that house we grew up in.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and loaded scrambled eggs please. Thanks. Oh what’s this? Juice? (gulp) IndifferentWHOA! Rum? At 8 o’clock in the morning?....Oh. Bear. Downunder…probably evening there. Whew…not used to that. I best lie down.Dead

Sunny, with a high near 56. Warning from NWS Lincoln. Noxious cloud will be rolling through Sangamon and southern Logan counties after 9 am, This cloud appears to have originated in west central LA in the early evening and is travelling at a fairly high speed in a northeasterly direction. The cloud is expected to take up to an hour to pass through the warned area. Residents are warned to prepare for unpleasant aromas. People with weak stomachs, children and the elderly are expected to feel the affects the worse.

Well turns out those guys that needed help were real nice. They had cookiesYes. We taaaalked and talked and talked. Finally before they left, and I have to laugh because, well I couldn’t make out just what he said because he was whispering, but at first it sounded like, “we can go, this ones not crazy, he’s just stupid.” Haha. Boy sometimes…Laugh.I always said it’s funnier when you don’t hear the whole conversation.

Ulrich-  I understand. The way I read the first one, I thought I missed something. It is sad. Thanks for sharing the picture. Good looking family.

Gary- Whew! I was gonna say. Paint the whole thing with a fine tip pen……

Jim- I’d never say it’s the picture. It’s me. I have trouble with colors. Not that I can’t see colors, I see all the colors and boy are they pretty. Problem is…, I don’t know what they are. I have a color astigmatism or however you say it, and it's just the hardest thing to explain unless you have it.  I can’t say something needs more of any color unless I already know what it is. Pictures only make it worse.

Ken- Had my Roadrunner 33 years come November.

Went to the wine and dessert tasting last night. IndifferentOh….., my gosh. I don’t know how you guys do it. Horrible….horribleIck!. Not a one. Either so dry ya spit cotton or tasted like gasoline that had a sour grape drug through it. Desserts were great thoughBig Smile. Now, between you me and the fence post, I would have had dessert wines myself for this event, but…that’s me and this is Williamsville, where if you have to shove a piece of fruit in your beer to make it taste good…..we change brands.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Looks like partly sunny (as opposed to partly cloudy?) today.Confused

Got to run Tinkerbell to the vet for a check up, then the LHS to pick up some stuff, then home. Maybe a grass cutting today, so we can Weed-n-Feed Saturday, before yard saling. Why do we do that anyway? We feed our lawns to make them grow, then gripe about cutting the grass??Confused

I've already staked my claim, Friday is all MINE! Laugh Mwuhahahaha
I've GOT TO finish a few projects this week:eek:, one you may be seeing in the pages of MR soon! That new work schedule is gonna moider my modeling time!!Smile, Wink & Grin

EDIT: Boy aren't I just the lucky one? Top again!

From the time tag on your post, you're getting up too early!  I'm 66 now and looking at retirement, probably next year, and one of the things I find most attractive about the idea is not being rudely summoned back from dreamland by an alarm clock every morning.  I'll admit, though, that I was glad when the nightmare I was having last week ended.  There I was, sitting in the trainroom, watching an entire freight train roll off the track at the end of the layout and go crashing to the floor.....whew!  The commute to work was a piece of cake compared to that.

Spring appears to have arrived in New England.  It's still chilly in the mornings, but it looks like highs in the 60s for a while - perfect weather for keeping energy bills down, and for spray-painting outside.  I've got some window-washing and yard stuff to do, and the door came off the backyard shed so that's got to be fixed, but I should have time for train-shopping and modeling, too.  A big thick steak on the grill sounds good, too....

Hi all.

Saw Iron Man 3 tonight, a pretty entertaining movie.

Bear - I did not make a dawn service ( I slept in!) but did make it to a mid morning march and service. I do plan on visiting Gallipoli one day, perhaps 2016? The ANZAC spirit is alive and well here in Oz too. I raise my glass to all who've served and are serving now. There is a fair bit of military history in my family. My Cousin currently serves and has done two tours to Afghanistan, my uncle was in the airforce, my Grandfather ( fathers side) was a Vietnam veteran and my Grandfather (mothers side) was a Korean war veteran in the RAF. My great grandfather (mothers side) was a WW2 RAF pilot. I'm not sure whether any of my family were in WW1 but I guess it's likely, our family tree disappears at 1920.

Cheers all!

I'll help Galaxy and Bear out by shouting too.

Good morning. It's 48° with 92% humidity. The high will be 72°.

Today I intend to work on the layout a bit. Cleanup mostly. Right now I'm getting ready to move the geeps onto the Sundown shop track and give my Atlas Trainmaster and Atlas U30E645 a run.

Evening All,

Galaxy, until your MOH gets a job, (though it seems to me she's getting the run around) and in commemoration of ANZAC Day, the drinks are on me, hope everyone doesn't mind a shot of Navy rum.

Ulrich, its coming up to ten years since my Mum passed away and though I only saw her once a year, I still miss her, I think we're lucky that we have parents that we miss.

JIMRCGMO. it was actually the 98th , the hundred year anniversary is the 25th April 2015. The commemoration at Anzac Cove , Gallipoli, Turkey has been limited to 10000 ANZACs, 8000 Australians, 2000 New Zealanders, the allocation ratio is based on the relative number of casualties suffered by New Zealand and Australia during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Apparently 40000 people have applied so it will have to be balloted. It would appear that we are not forgetting.

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

Senior Living Fight Yep Galaxy it started a stupid fight with my wife! (not that it is your fault)  I mention what I saw on the internet today to my wife before I went to work, she did not seem thrilled with the idea. While I was on one site I requested some more information, seemed like the thing to do.Want to guess who called while I was at work? Glenn Carbon Retirement And Assisted Living Center!

Glenn Carbon Retirement And Assisted Living Center is 5 minutes from where we live now and a area my wife loves to go shopping. It is set on a 18 acre area with lakes, swimming pool (won't hang out there looking at the chicks) and has apartments, condos and house for rent. All so on site medical care 24 7.

 Fight

Wife. I am not that old to need assisted living.

 Me. Never said you did.

No, NO, No,  Ken. You approached it all worng.

You say" Honey, I don't want a lawn to mow anymore, I'd rather sit by a pool someone else takes care of" {and/or "IF my toe comes off, I CANNOT mow anymore"}

You say "HONEY the RENT is based on a % of income, that leaves MORE $$ FOR US!!!"

"Honey: we are losing the house anyway, why not move to Senior Housing now?"

You say "senior housing is for people who are 55 and up" {NOTE: not "OLDER"} "guess who around here is 55 and UP"...

You say: "honey, we Are getting past the half-century mark,  now, we should think about getting into a SENIOR HOUSING {NOTE: DO NOT MENTION "ASSISTED LIVING" YET.}"

You say "honey: I will get into Z scale!"

You say" WHEN we DO need "assisted living", we will already be there, as it WILL HAppen!, NO need to move again"

Things like that.

I am lucky, I guess. MOH likes the idea, is on board with it, and likes trains too.  We pretty much think alike and have same/similar Ideas.

GUESS MOH is a keeper. Now if MOH could only find a J-O-B.....

Good Morning!

Today is the day we will say farewell to Dad. I have found a picture I´d like to share with you:

It shows my Dad´s family in 1931. My Dad is the lad on the left. Both of his younger sisters passed away before him - and both on the same day of the year, which is also our wedding day.

I miss him so much!

Today is one of those days why man invented BEER!

 Evening, ah Dinner?

Wake up Flo, I would like a Beer

Today I had to play Clean Up The Other Peoples Messes Day. Won't go into detail, but I am sick of getting stuck with Services Manger's and other Counter Person Mistakes! Got out at 9:30 and lost $20.00 in commissions. Reason I got stuck with the problems? They all ready got to go home!

Wife. I am not in that bad of shape. (She cannot pick up 10 pounds or walk 20 minutes and take pain med's for her back 3 times a day) Yep a picture of health!

Me. Never said you where in bad shape at all honey bunny.

Wife. You think I am old don't you! (she was going to Rolling Stone Concerts when they first got started Whistling and is 5 years older than me".

Me. Not to me honey bunny.

Wife.I want a yard! (she has never pushed or pulled a lawnmower in her life)!

Me.They have yards that I don't have to cut and common grounds a well. Plus I don't want a yard, I am sick of cutting grass!

Wife. I want some places to plant flowers! (she should have said where I can plant the flower for her so she can kill them later by over watering)

Me. They have flower beds where you can plant what ever you want. (so she can kill them in her spare time) Whistling

Wife. They don't have garages for your trains! (she thought she had me there!)

Me. Some units do have garages.

Wife. Well they won't have windows in them. (meaning the garages)

Me. They make A/C units for rooms with out garages.

 Wife.YOU THINK I AM OLD DON"T YOU!

Me. Not at all. (while I was hoping she take a pain pill and fall asleep)

So Flo, hand me another beer and keep them coming!

 Today Sucked Big Cabooses

  Ken

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll just have a mug of hot chocolate, please. Thank you!

Curt - sounds like you are gonna be busy tomorrow. I hope your cardiac stress test comes first so you know if you can get through that 15-hour day at w**k! By the way, that crane looks good. Smile

Paul, when you have that many things to fit into it, do you still count that as a "day off"?Oops (Been there, done that on a few days off)

Ken, cool photo Cool - it looks like you had curly hair back then. Do you still have all those curls? Whistling Hopefully, tonight you will get some better sleep than last night. Zzz

Fergie, depending on the seas where you are, they could make assembling your bridge rather.. interesting, eh? Hope you get some calmer seas so you can make good progress. Thumbs Up

Jake, how's your scholarship application(s) coming along? Or did you already send them along to the college(s)?

BN/SP&S Gary - you tease! Laugh The photo you posted looks good - is that in process (or like with some of our projects, it's waiting for parts to arrive...)?

Barry, maybe your buddies - who didn't make it to your local diner there - were 'transplants' from SOTB (and not used to the weather like I hear real Canadians are)? Smile, Wink & Grin Oh, and have you PM'ed Todd about any 'freebie sn*w-blowing' help? I bet he could make a run from you, head west and get at least a couple of our other Diners up there (Johnboy, CDN Dennis...), come south to Broadway's place and then return back across Iowa and clean off Chris' front drive on the way back home. But, I'll let you and Todd w**k out the details...Whistling (Including the photos of the two of you in front of your cleaned front drive in your superhero suits)

Cheers, JaBear - excellent to hear of the improved turnout for the (94th one, right?) parade. I raise my mug in honour of all the ANZACs. BowThumbs Up

W**k today was pretty calm this morning, but right as I was gonna go to lunch, we got 3 people (almost all at once) show up (with our current process, the people can be set up with an appointment without us seeing them, unless there's something heavier-duty going on - and then we assess how urgent the person's situation is). So I couldn't leave until we knew if any of them needed to be seen, and after that was determined, some more showed up, and then I had my 3 p.m. appointment, and after that it was too late for lunch. Sigh Hey, I didn't really need that lunch anyway, right?

Looks like most of the other Diners are at home tonight. Guess I'll finish up my hot chocolate and head for home myself. AngelAngel will continue for those in need of 'em.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

No layout work today. The FP7's and the geeps got a good run though. Went to my fathers place for lunch. Pinto beans, cornbread, collard greens, home fries. I had dinner at home tonight. Chimichangas topped with jalapenos, pepper and Tabasco. The geeps (GP7, GP35, F slug, GP7) are getting a good run right now. I've had these Bachmann GP7's for at least a couple of years and they still run whisper quiet. Looks like there's a small chance of rain tonight and tomorrow.

Well, time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
