Wire turnouts
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, September 18, 2004 1:18 PM
Have made turnouts with Fast Track jigs. Code 55, HOn30. Great product.
Frogs/track are isloated and need power. Need super basic ABC instructions on wiring turnouts. Where do wires go from on switches and on frog etc? Will use SPDT or DPDT switches hand operated. Need advice on switches. Contact me off list. Thank you. jimamatosuccess@fuse.net

3 different wiring schemes: the KEY is the Frog.

POWER ROUTING:
Gapped inner frog rails, and Wired so the frog receives power from the outside rails via external switch points. (Example Walthers/Shinohara).

DCC:
Frogs are dead , and power jumpered .(Example: Atlas).

COMBINATION:
Frogs are isolated. Wired through external switch points. outside and inside rails are jumpered on both sides of frog. (Sounds like this is your solution.)

Sorry I can't draw you a diagram. If YOU draw the diagram, gap both sides of the frog, and jumper inner rails to outer rails you should have it. Now connect the frog through a switch motor's SPDT points such as RIX or Tortoise. If you can't power the frog via a switch motor that also moves the points, best to leave it isolated (dead).
