Broadway Limited 2-10-4 J1 Question Need Help
Posted by Howardr on Monday, September 13, 2004 11:01 AM

Hello all.

I recently purchased a Broadway Limited 2-10-4 J1. Nice engien. Really nice equiptment but really priceie. The box contained a few parts which I can't for the life of me figure out what or where they would be applied to engine or tender.

They are two black tabs with small hinges on them and these tabs are about one inch long. One side is smooth black and the othere side has kind of little diamond shapes etched into the plastic. I would think this side is exposed to be seen.

I spent a week (not all at once) trying to figure out where they go but could'nt so I called the Broadway Limited people. The person I spoke with did a really poor job explaining where these tabs are to be attached to the engine.

I check both the engine and tender for little holes where these tabs could be applied but still no luck. I'm sure I'm missing something.

Help.

Thanks. [:(]

I'm not sure about the proper terminology, but it sounds like a foot board that would go at the rear of the cab and extend out toward the tender. The fireman had to have something to stand on, because otherwise there was a large gap between the end of the locomotive cab and the front of the tender. Most models, such as Bachmann, have this part already installed on hinges.

Thanks for the advise. I'll check the positioning out when I get home tonight. Hope you are right, this thing has been driving me crazy.

It's the footboard between the engine and the tender. It sort of snaps into the opening at the back of the cab and is held on more by friction than anything. I had the same thing on my J1. Put it in wrong, it snapped out, fell on the garage floor and I'm STILL looking for it, after 3 weeks. I was kind of surprised that BLI did this with the Pennsy, as I have several other BLI locos and the footboard came attached.

There are two differant sized foot boards so depending on your curve radius, you can choose the best one for your curves.
