[#welcome] to the forum. Are you a small game hunter? Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously though, this sounds like a great project for polymer clay. It shouldn't be too hard to fashion some yourself.

An O scale .30-06.


I would suggest trying some marine expoxy. The kind that comes in the moldable ribbon of blue and yellow. Mash it together until it turns green and then shape it and let it harden.

You could use to brass wire to form a frame then cover it with the epoxy. I forgot to mention that.

Actually Dan the polymer clay might work better for this one. All he would need to do is roll it out into strings, shape it and bake it. The moose antlers are more flat and blobby.

A totally different idea would be to start with some brass or copper wire then solder.

Kpop,
If either Merten or Preiser makes O scale figures, it might be simpler to buy elk or deer from them and do some surgery. I don't have the Walthers O scale catalog. Are you going to mount them on a steam loco above the headlight ? I did check Musket Miniatures, but their figures are mostly HO and N scale.

Do you have any N scale friends, Mr. O scaler Kpop? If so, you may have a ready source for O scale antlers, at least, if your N scale modeler friend is past the "ready to run"/"train set" stage and puts MicroTrainsLines couplers on his cars. Some of the sprues from coupler parts resemble antlers. I even thought about using them for that., mounting them on a cabin, but I decided they were somewhat oversize for N scale. I am not sure you will be satisfied, but it might not hurt too much to ask.

Believe it or not, I have a European plastic kit for an N scale mountain cabin that has a plastic part to represent deer horns mounted above the cabin door.

Thanks for the help. All of the ones I've seen from Priesser and other manufacturers so far look rather hokey. I may try the polymer clay and do them up right...

Or perhapse I could find an O scale 30-06...and go small game hunting...

Many hobby shops have a section of the store dedicated to cast metal figures called "game pieces." Most are wizards, trolls, or dragons, and you may have to pick through quite a number before you discover the figures suitable for your "O" scale needs.

The artists who construct these build in a lot of character which is good. They also build them in 25mm scale which is on the small side of acceptable. Expect to find bank robbers, gangsters, dancing ladies, and the like. The hobby shop will have catalogues to browse.

In one instance, I picked up a "running elk" that had a set of glue-on antlers. I made the elk a girl, and mounted the antlers on the headlight of my 19th century locomotive. This worked out real good. Good luck in your search.

Concerning my needs: I am looking for a herd of longhorn cattle in 1/4 inch scale. Please help! -rick
