Hi. Just wondering if annyone uses microprocessors on their layout? I'm studying to become an electornics technologist and it looks to me like these little devices could be put to good work on a layout.
Any comments?

Jeez, most of can't figure out how to wire reversing loops! Seriously, I've read somewhere of using a PC to automate operations. I imagine that DCC decoders probably use an ASIC of some kind, DCC controllers might have a uP. You could probably do some neat things using a uP - signal control comes to mind.

Actually thats one of the neat things about microprossesors. it might make some things easyer. Just wire each input to a pin and each output to a pin and program the thing. If something changes just reprogram it.

Most decoders are microcontrollers. I've seen some using ones from microchip (PIC controllers)
Also, some higher end signal systems use uP. check out http://www.cti-electronics.com/
