Esoteric: How to scrape off Euro-License plates on Model Power Minis...

Those Model Power mini vehicles which started floating around my local hobby shops recently are pretty darn good looking and have rather good paint jobs which just need a bit of dulling to look really good - yes, they seem to all be German prototypes, and some combos are rather weird - a Karmann Ghia pulling a '50s camper [%-)] ). Here's a link: http://www.modelpower.com/site/519087/page/276435
Unfortunately, the ones I've purchased so far (Mini Cooper, Merc C Sport Coupe, Audi TT, and of course a Karmann Ghia - sans trailer - still haven't found the Sprinter yet) all have European licenses which would not go well on my modern-era Northeast US layout - I was able to slowly scrap off the license on the Merc, but it still needed some paint touch up - any ideas for removing the euro-licenses from the others without ruining the very nice paint jobs. Not sure if I'm dealing with decals or pad-printing here...
