Many of us have remotored N scale locomotives, but only the original motors are "drop-in" fits, so be prepared to do some filing with a motor tool. As to gears, you might check with NorthWest Short Line, which I think is www.nwsl.com

Rebuilding N scale Locos

I picked up a Arnold GG1 in N-scale last fall. It is noisy and runs poorly, (lots of hesitation at slow speeds). Has anyone ever re-engined an N scale loco? If so what do you think about Kato's replacement engines and where can I get a good set of nylon gears? I am assuming that the noise is coming from the gears. Regards.
