In my opinion, there are quite a few European structure kits that resemble structures that appeared in the US during the 1900s.

On the prototypical side,  I just rented the movie The Raven, a  mystery-horror film about Edgar Allen Poe set in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1840s.  It was filmed in Serbia and Hungary to find the look of 1840s Baltimore.

My layout under construction is set in 1950s Galveston-- but the "Strand" downtown section is made up largely of Victorian era commercial buildings that did not get modernized.

Pola's (also sold as Model Power) kit called General Electric factory, Internal Revenue Service on fire, and in other identities, could be used to bash a

which could be somewhat reminiscent of Ikelhemier's store in Galveston.

might be approximated

Galveston had a brewery similar to and designed by the same German architect as this San Antonio brewery, now converted to an art museum...

...which resembles the Heljan brewery kit.

This gas company building, demolished a few years back (GLAD I got the picture when I did!) could have been built from a European kit, but it actually was a building in Texas that dated from the civil war period.

John,

that´s a somewhat academic questions, as there are thousands of kits around. Quite a few could probably be bashed into a US outline structure, but it sure is questionable, whether this is worth the effort.

My best bet is to take a look at some Heljan kits. Heljan is a Danish manufacturer who has some nice industrial structure kits, which could be used as a basis for such a project.

Bashing foreign out line kits to US outline

Hi all

In a UK model railway publication was an artical about bashing Walthers Union Station into a very English looking terminus building.

Which led to the questions if they can do it, what foreign structures are out there that can be bashed into a convincing looking US out line structure without to much pain.

And what would you look for to know it would look right at the end.

regards John
